Just as long as the Devil is in a good mood. If he's going to be a luck sucker then you're doomed...
Wait a minute! If you can drive down to Foxwoods to roll some dough on the one arm bandit, then there is no excuse to do some quality fishing in Rhody this year... Not much further for you to go...

yeah!I dont mind the RI drive at all.......now if only I could find myself a local to show me around...... (heh, heh) I have tried a couple times down there but no luck. I also got some awfully strange looks when I appeared with my eleven footer........seems to be you rhode islanders like to keep things short and sweet!
Actually I went to the show tonight and had something "short and sweet" in mind...I dunno....nothing jumped out at me though.....either I dont really know what to look for, or I couldn't seem to bring myself to bother looking at alll the rods stuffed in barrels (yes they were many displayed this way)!
Anyone out there with any suggestions for a decent set up??? I have intentions of venturing a bit this year, hoping to fish more jetties and such......I say "decent set up" because I dont want the Kmart special....but I cant afford the cream of the crop either....thanks for any input....

Jenn,
A Rhody Rod would run a couple feet short of your Race stick. All you really would need is a 9' stick with a little backbone... How do you do most of your fishing and what reel(s) do you use??

Jenn, J&J Outfitters in East Windsor, CT will offer some nice custom rods in the next few weeks at very reasonable prices. One you might want to check out is the AllStar 1088 (9ft 1-3 oz). This rod would make a great RI stick. These rods are well wrapped with a nice decorative butt wrap and are actually less expensive than most of the big name factory rods.

Jenn, speaking of that blank. I'm about to build one after I build my new wrapper :P
It does feel like a real nice blank but I haven't even buily it let alone fished with it yet...

my current rod/reel inventory is as stated....
10' Ugly stick
11'interline Sealine X
Penn 704
...and of course my latest Shimano Baitrunner 6500.....
now no laughing or picking
Jeff H aslo suggested that I visit J&J...so I have been wanting to....havent quite made it yet though......
My love for fishing has really been growing these past couple years and now I think I am ready to start taking peoples advice when they say "rhode Island" and CT river! Now of course I am really geared up this year and very anxious....the only problem is I feel like I am not sure where to begin... But I guess learning as you go is all part of the experience right??!?

Hey there Jenn,
Still want to get together with you this spring, I think we will need to get a cape trip in order, may be an all girls day, do you think you and wendy may be up for that? It will be me and Squidmama also, give it some thought, how far are you from the cape? If that isn't an option, maybe we can have you and the hubby come for a trip. let me know what is best for you and we will try and iron out the trip.

Jenn, you are just about to fishing nirvana... Your reels are such that a nice 9 foot stick and a 7-8 foot schoolie outfit would be all that you need for a full season of fishing. A nice schoolie outfit is really pretty cheap and your 704 will handle your mid and high end needs and then there is the big gun for the telephone pole...
And I would highly recommend you hook up with FW for some early South Cape fun as you would have an absolute blast on those early season bass and blues blitzes that FW invariably finds herself in...
Later...

Fisherwoman.....I am game as long as everyone else is!! I am about two hours to the bridge....which isnt too bad at all.....its those Race Point trips that get a bit lengthy to make a day of...so we dont get there often enough
You name the place and time.......I will make it a point to be there! Even if I have to be "sick...cough...cough" to do it !

Ok Jenn I will work on that, it will probably be around the 1st week in May, but we will see when the fish come rolling in to get a better Idea, if it warms up sooner it will be around the end of April, but I will be scouting around so I will let ya know. It will be great, there are some great places down there to fish and you aren't going all the way to the race. Can't wait to hook up with ya.

Jenn were abouts in Western Mass are you? Next time I have room in the boat I'd be happy to have you along at the Thames. I've taken a guy from another Board, who lives in the Worcester area and it was under 1-1/2 hour drive for him. If your free weekdays, I'm usually on my own, because most are punching the old clock. I work for myself, so if the weather is good; I usually quit and then hire myself back the next day, lol.
Theres a die hard couple from Orange Mass that lives down there on weekends and they have about a 3 hour drive. I guess it all depends on how badly you need to wet a line. If your like most, that needs getting almost out of control about this time of year.
Tight lines.
