Get your walking shoes ready---The closures/hatchings have begun

To all interested,

Sandy Neck closed last night completely due to a hatched nest near the access trail.

The first of what will be many Race Point closures also began in recent days. The alternative access plan is just not even close to enough.

Predictions by beach managers are that Nauset will experience serious if not complete closures due to hatching nests by mid June.

In the end, all of the efforts we as citizens of MA to sacrifice access and bring the threatened Piping Plover numbers back are turning out to be for not. Each time the numbers of Plovers approach a goal, the goal is changed, adjusted or more clearly "defined".

Common sense alternatives are frequently denied or never considered as Beach Managers are threatened by extreme environmentalists that really want us off the beach.

This Wednesday nbioght is the final MBBA BOD meeting before the Summer. IF you are a member and want to find out how to support MBBA actions, come on down. More info can be found on www.MBBA.net.

If you are a member of another club, please make sure your club is communicating with MBBA in order to ensure that the whole recreational fishing community is being heard by our state and federal officials.

It will be rough summer and will be even rougher if we do not stand together and demand coexistance with the birds.

Uhm, there's a big difference between radical environmentalists and a bunch of people trying to save birds.

If we applied your argument to religion, maybe we should be sending the local priests to gitmo?

FYI....Nauset is open again. though there was a short closure this morning it appears that a washover at Pochet and a "controlled burn" may have contributed to the closure. Unfortunately, the communication at the gate was apparently poor as to the reason for the closure.

If these geroups are only trying to save this species then....Why do they refuse to count birds reported in places such as dredge islands and other locations that the public does not access?
Why do they refuse to let the public clean areas known to be good bird habitat and force birds into conflict areas with humans? Why does the Piping Plover Recovery Plan lack flexability for the biologists to adjust due to changing weather and nesting data? Tjhe questions are endless and the answeres seem clear once on is truely informed and not just reading short bits of info.

Coexistance is clearly possible but the extreme enviros will not be a part of anything that will end the machine that drives the educational, job crating, budget eating industry surrounding these birds.

Post Our children

I believe our children and their children will thank us for every little bit of conservation we do. Our generation as used up more resources than all previous generations combined. Besides there's lots of water, lots of beach, and it's challenging to try new spots.

controlled burn... hmmm.. yum yum.. hard boiled plovah eggs

prolly trying to stem the overly abundant P.I., and deer tick foliage..
Pochet has been real thick with both.

Nauset North has a half dozen nests as well... time to give the TownFathers a hard nudge again.. I know first hand that several businesses in town are at a make or break, due to last years one month closure.. a two month closure is gonna leave a large scar.. Orleans.. the Next Dennisport .. look for more empty store fronts soon..
They best be persuing that Section 10 permit, like they agreed to do, or it will just keep getting worse....

Talking Easy Fred

Late Fifties/Early Sixties.. when the NPS grabbed the Seashore, and tried to go south of Eastham into Orleans and Chatham.. they were grabbing what they could.. the town of Orleans did not want to loose Nauset, and balked at them "taking" the public beach.. and.. convinced the Orleans campowners to turn over their camps to the Town.. with a gentlemens agreement they could use them... (this kinda blew up last year.. but has been straightened out).. Chatham camp owners.. well.. some caved and signed over their camps and signed 50 year leases.. some didn't and still own them outright.. as each lease has run out.. some have renegotiated, some have not been able too.. and some.. like this one.. has been abandoned and empty.. and this one also got pushed around a bit in the last storm.. the one that made the new "cut".. so.. they torched it.. not the first one to get burned.. one campowner years ago.. who was not allowed to rebuild after a storm.. torched his.. easier than dismantilling and hauling off.. .. NPS has burned 'em before.. still a few that are abandoned out there.. I still like going by them.. History and all that..
(Read: Drifting Memories.. tells the history of all the Nauset Camps)

Some say its best to torch them instead of letting them get vandalized, and possibly some foolish kid getting hurt.. could be..

Saddest thing I ever saw.. one New Years Day.. a family whose lease had run out down there.. their loading everything into a bunch of trucks.. all of them with tears streaming.. NPS wouldn't renew.. they even begged for 5 years.. 3 years.. one summer... 4 generations of memories.. bet they wished they never took the lease deal...
They came back to watch it get burned a couple years later.. I don't think I coulda done that... if it had been me...

Like one owner told me tho.. Million Dollar View.. that I wouldn't give ya 5 cents for.. one storm.. could all be gone.

it ain't getting any easier for sure

I'd be going to that meeting if I didn't have to mow the lawn and feed the kids and a million other things.

we are a dying breed I guess

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

1984 was a warning, not a guidebook!

It's time more people spoke up with the truth. Every time we let a leftist lie go uncorrected, the commies get stronger.
