As many of those above, didn't get out as much as I would have liked ... although it was pretty terrible for me up until last night until I finally caught a respectable fish ... not huge but made my evening and it tasted good as well ... other than that it has been s - l- o - w ... so it was a nice change last night, hope August picks up some ... along with a strong fall run, which I am not quite ready for ...

I can remember one really fantastic July 4th ,,12 yrs. ago .. My son and I got into large in the middle of the day one right after the other.. Every other July in my area seems to have been the month we settle into the duldroms. I havn't been able to make it to the water hardly due to personal stuff,, but buds tell me I'm missing nothing .

I'm not complaining. I went to the cape last week and got on a boat and caught fish everyday.
Pulled pots and dragged up some nice lobsters....grabbed some sea clams, steamers and muscles with a couple of friends who are licensed in that area got blues off the 4 different boats I was invited on and one day jigged up a 30" and a 38" striper from the race and even managed to get me a new hat from blackbeards.
Last monday we even maged to grill up a few freshly caught blues for breakfast.
On top of it I spent every afternoon at the beach with my daughters.

First 2 weeks of Julty were great. Lots of fish in mid to high 20#s. Last 2 weeks have sucked.
the truth be known, the problem has been that the pogies are way up the Bay. I mean WAY up the Bay and the decent Bass are WAY down the Bay. I am changing the live well pump in my boat to a bigger flow as I have not been able to keep pogies alive for the 20 mile runs I have been making.

July here was great for the first two weeks, slow for the 3rd week and downright poor for the 4th week. (for Surf bass) The first two weeks was very steady with 6 nights in a row of outstanding fishing with many quality fish. Some nights had 20+ fish per man. Nothing much over 30# but lots of fish in the high 20's. It is downright dead now though. You will see 1000's of small-med bass but you can't catch them...feeding on krill. The only lure that will work is the hand grenade plug. I am sending my reels in for a mid season tuneup in prep for the fall.
Boat guys are doing fair but are having to work for it.
The place to be fishing now is the canyons...I am hearing awesome reports...a lot of boats connecting with Blue Marlin, a few swordfish (at night) , lots of yellows and a few good size Wahoo and large big eyes.

It sucked bad for me.
I have 1 bass from the surf all July, about 18" whoopee
and only a couple from the canal but that is because I was not there much.
I'm not having a good year fishing that is for sure, maybe I can land a seal this weekend though.
I think I need to change the places I fish.
I am looking forward to the fall.

I had a 30# plus fish from the shore last week on a popper. A seal took it about 20 yards off shore. When I was walking the seal down the beach, hoping to get the fish, or at least my plug back, some kid goes, "wow, great fish man!". I'm thinking to myself, great fish nothing! it's in a seals mouth. Anyway, the fish is pretty big, and the seal actually let it go to take a gulp. I start reeling as fat as I can, as the fish gets close to the wash, I recognize that it definitely is Striper Cup worthy. Just as I start thinking I will be able to weigh in this fish, even with a big bite out of it's belly, I see a humungous wake with a dark shadow come racing into the surf towards my fish. He got it again! I lost my fish and my plug to that seal. That was definitely my best July fish by far. Other than that, a few small keepers and shorts and blues.
