HABS benefit at STRIPERFEST this Sunday
After trying to sort out the best way to raise money for the Haberek family we have been presented with a great opportunity. I have contacted Chris Megan from On The Water magazine who has graciously offerred to let us hold a silent auction at the event being held at the HARPOON brewery this coming Sunday. The STRIPERFEST is a year end celebration where anglers are recognized for their participation in the On The Water STRIPER CUP.What better place could we get to raise money? There will be hundreds of anglers in attendance and almost all recognize HABS as an outstanding plug builder but an even better person.
Please come with a heavy pocketbook ready to help a worthy cause this Sunday *** I was also informed that On The Water, along with the premier sponsors of the striper cup will be putting up some top-notch prizes and assorted goodies to bid on. The proceeds of such going directly to Habs' family. Big ups for OTW!!! *** - edited 9/26 by JohnR to update OTW/Striperfest benefit
A BIG Thank You to Point Jude Joe,John Redmond,The Saltwater Edge,On The Water and Harpoon for helping make this come together. We will hoist a cold one on Sunday in the memory of my good friend as well as many others the HAB man.
See You on Sunday,
Chris Daniels

As has been the case throughout this endeavor we have run into another twist for the benefit.Chris Megan explained to me that at this, the eleventh hour of the Striperfest the logistics of a large silent auction would involve biting off more than he and his very busy crew could chew.I was also informed that On The Water, along with the premier sponsors of the striper cup will be putting up some top-notch prizes and assorted goodies to bid on. The proceeds of such going directly to Habs' family. Big ups for OTW!!!
The logical next step will involve getting the remainder of the donations together for an online auction of some sort.Details have yet to be worked out but soon we will be offerring some great prizes that I have been working tirelessly to acquire.Thank You for your patience as it will pay off handsomely for Jessica and Jr.

Although I didn't know the man, it's quite a legacy for the man when you see such an outpouring of support and memories.
In a way, it was like finding out that your favorite auther has passed. For me, it would be like Isaac Asimov. Although I never met the man, I've loved his work for years.
All I can say is that when my time should come, if I only receive a fraction as much remembrance and comaradarie, then I would truly have been blessed.
To paraphrase an old corny movie line:
"A person is not judged by how much he has love/cared about others but by those who have loved/cared about him."
I can only hope to leave as compelling a legacy as John Haberek's.
