for trolling lead line

could the penn 112h handle this chore it holds 375 yds of 30 i know theres a formula for how many feet you have to let out for every 10 ft you want it down i never knew there was so much to reels since i started researching this anyone have preferences on the red senators or the black for price wise the 112 is the best then theres the slim mariner whats the difference between wide and slim for trolling purposes im just trying to find out as much info as i can before investing anymore money my fishing is going to be mostly from boat trolling tubes umbrellas but i also want something that could fall fish for a small tuna if i got lucky i have a 113h and love it so i want to stick with penn i know i dont have it set up right i have about 200 yds of lime green mono 40 on it and want to change that to lead line or wire then we get into another subject rods if i wanted to use the 113 for wire would i be better off getting a better rod made for wire then that leaves me with a 6ft ande stand up to put something on any suggestions!!!!1

I think the 112 would work fine, I used to use a 320GTI for leadcore and had no problems. I think you probably want a leadcore outfit and a wire outfit, typically the leadcore works best in 20' and under depths, and the wire works best in 20'+ depths.

I can't remember what the line capacity is on the 20/320 I think, so the 112 wil have more capacity. For wire go with the 113H or the 330GTI...

You might consider spooling the reel with one of the thin diameter braid-type lines and adding a trolling weight as needed.
That way, you haven't dedicated the reel to just one type of fishing.

But if you have limited equip. then braid/weight is the way to go. We succesfully trolled 6 rods in the Ch. Bay using various weights......until we hit the crab pot area! People doen there troll 16 rods off of 20' cc's for stripers, but they don't have to turn much.

I was on a charter in the Ches. bay a couple times and your right...I could not believe all the lines they trolled...Something like 16-20 lines. Including 4 or 6 handlines. Rods everywhere. We went thru a school of fish and they all went over...what a mess. but in one pass we had the limit and we were back at the dock by 9:00am. (maybe that is why they do it)

macey, a lot depends on where you intend to fish, how the currents are there, and the depth of the water. wire is better for trolling and lead core is better for live lining deep. stick w/ penn as far as wire goes. use the chrome spools. 113h is a solid choice, but again, it depends on those conditions i mentioned above. use a dacron backing under the wire. don't use graphite rods for wire. stick to solid or tube glass and use either carboloy or sic guides. trolling more than 4 rods at one time is not smart.

you really can't have this type of rod and use it for tuna. a wire line rod for stripers is just that. you need another outfit for tuna. a 113h could work, but a 114h or int'l is better.
