holy crap! i got a hit!

me.. my usual spot.. a plug.. and a hit?! NO WAY!

it only took the entire season. third cast tonight. bam!. too bad i missed it. probably because i was to busy turning all the way around to yell to my buddy "sure smells clammy tonight".
and then for the next 3 hours.. nothing.

but hey, it's a start. gotta say, once i felt that tug and caught a glimpse of the splash.. all my plugging memories came back. almost as if by magic. i was suddenly in the zone again. the fact that my rod weighs a metric ton and is about as responsive as a bus, didn't matter anymore. my sore back.. gone. my sense of what my plugs were doing completely returned..

it's weird. it's like that one lil hit flipped a switch in me. one that i hadn't had on all season. from a very young age i prided myself on being a plugger. always using lures over bait. this season i guess i got lazy/frustrated and after a couple of years of not REALLY fishing. just wasn't feeling it.

no longer! i'm back in the saddle. the remaining fish better watch the hell out. if i can get back to being half as good as i used to be, they in for it.

now if only i could find a bait shop not an hour away with a good selection of plugs. <-- main reason i wasn't to big on it this year.

larry, i owe ya one...

this week is gonna be a slaughter if i can find some fish.

Catching fish is fun, and for that eels/bait rule. Hunting and fooling fish can be even more fun, and for that plugs rule.

i think it was on the water where i read that alot of people get sucked into the "what works" style of fishing...

they went to a spot and got a decent fish on a polka dot sluggo so they stay with that spot and that lure all the while its the leopard striped sluggo down the beach a way thats producing this week.

this was my diagnosis and since then I've been fishing all kinds of stuff.

you've got the right attitude and drive, but as said above you need a new spot, an average shore trip for me consists of 3-5 spots depending on tide and wind. I even go back to the first spots to check them again, fish move, you need to as well!

is covering almost 7 miles of shore line by foot enough? cuase thats what i ended up doing to day.. just got back and man are my arms tired.. only one freakin hit to show for it..
also.. we hit about that many spots on an average night.

everything started off well enough. found a spot hunkered down. 20mins later tail slaps every where just beyond reach. they get to me a fog rolls in and boom they are gone. and then from there i covered that entire area inside and out. finally found the fish on my walk home. but they were waaaaay out of reach. oh well. always tomorrow.

as far as golf.. does tiger woods 08 count?

edit: lol about an hour later.. got a tip on a blitz down the street.. heading back out.. better still be there by the time i get there.

I'm just joking with you about the golf. We all have bad streaks

A.) would have worked flawlessly if not for barbs.. of course had i planned a head i could have crushed the barbs while still in the protectors, since i end up doing that any way..

B.) was waiting on my buddy to arrive.. but then he got "the call" from the g/f. put an end to that plan. i was all set with anymore walkin.

the ocean will be there tomorrow.. so will all the lovely striper carcasses to remind me that other people catch fish there. which is actually becoming really annoying lately. over the past couple weeks they have been all over the beach. along with hacked up dogfish. i hate to pull the eyesore card.. but it really is becoming an eyesore. between the stench of rotting kelp, dog crap, and rotting fish heads the beach has become a rather unpleasant place to walk.

on a brighter note.. i think we might be bringing our bad luck to RI and out to the deep sea this weekend. will be nice to get away from the nightly bump and grind spots.
