				 | i am constantly trying to fix something on my father in law's vista.
Conflicts with half of his hardware, and all sorts of other minor but annoying glitches.

				 | i had problems with vista... and it turns out 99% of it was hardware related
if you have an nvidia graphics card? Get ATI
if you have one of those older style MS wireless keyboards/mice - upgrade

ive been running flawlessly for months now

there is no compelling reason to upgrade really, but... as long as your willing to upgrade your hardware a bit, youll be fine if you do.

				 | I bought a new xps from dell in Feb/Mar with vista and it has been working great. I imagine if you have an old machine or printer and want to load vista there may be some issues but otherwise it has been working flawlesslly for me. I like it...a lot better then xp IMO... on several fronts. My only complaint is it is a memory hog. I have 4 gb and it takes away 1 gb just for the OS and only shows 3gb avaiable. When you load Photoshop and IndesignCS3 with all my calendar photos...it takes all the memory..It still seems to run fine without pausing (which is much better then the machine I used last year which ened up swapping at times)
Anyway I am pretty postivie on the product, esp with new hardware.

IMO if you get a new machine and it does not work, pack it up and send it back.

				 | Unix is excellent for real computing. Most serious scientists, engineers and most supercomputers run on some form of UNIX. If they have a windows machine it is mostly for getting email or word to communicate with non-computing types. For this desktop stuff most people like the fluff of windows and the polished application choices. Mac is for school kids and humbags. It is too touch-feelie for serious computing but is easy to get the warm and fuzzies.
This is MO, as always, your mileage will vary.

				 | had a few issues at first but they where driver related - nothing major
side note*** - the company I work for is in a partnership with Microsoft - hence the reason we jumped right to Vista. Believe me - if it was up to me we would have waited till Nov 2008.
