Just an update from Oz

Been just hooking huge sharks. Well at least we think they are sharks.

I loaded up an Alvey with 80 Lbs braid to get one back.

Here is vid of an egg beater reel loaded with 50 Lbs braid.. Going going gone.

That was insane!!!!

that was great!

it brings back memories of that mystery fish though. that afternoon haunts my dreams...

There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process. ~Paul O'Neil, 1965

I had that happen to me once, We were striper fishing and catching smallish stripers 26 to 36 inch, and all of a sudden I hook up and it just keeps going and going till I grab the spool, I had about 3 wraps left on the spool and the tug of war began till the hook straightened and pulled out. never to know what it was, 50 maybe 60 pouder?

Only time I've ever hooked up like that was from #1: Mercruiser like Bloo
and #2: sealz!
Hope you guys don't swim around there.
Looks like yer ready to fight by the looks of that belt, though.
Gotta buddy who fishes for sharks like that in South Kakalake...he uses anchor rope, eye round and the biggest hook he can get online.
He usually just ties the rope off to his dock!
Good luck,
Bring big pliers!

That reminds me of our 2+hr battle with a tuna on the Ave Maria 2 last june.
But we had the benefit of being on a boat with 500hp to chase it down for 0ver 6 miles!

We loaded up with 80 Lbs braid and pulleed in a 2.5 - 3 meter (10 foot) shovel nose shark last night..

There are a lot of sharks here, Bronze Whalers, Tigers, Hammer Heads. Doesnt stop people swimming though. I just dont think they know.

I go diving and have never seen one here while under water.

I will post a pic of the shovel when I get the camera that took it.
