fishing trip

I realize that this is a striped bass board but i am getting pretty excited about a fishing trip I will be going on in three weeks. I have been lucky enough to be invited to be the angler/mate for the Bahama Billfish Championship. This is a 4 day tournament that gives you 100pts for a tagged and released sailfish, 200 pts for a tagged and released white marlin, and 400 pts for a tagged and released blue marlin. A blue marlin over 99 inches long can be boated and you will recieve 1 point per pound. That is approximately a 400 lb fish. Total points at the end of 4 days wins the tournament but they will have daily prizes as well. Any fish boated over 1000 lbs the boat recieves $1million from the sponsors. Do you think I would like to boat a grander or what ? well thanks for letting me vent I am getting pretty excited just writing this. I just asked " steve from mass" if he would give me a ride to the airport and he graciously said yes so now i am 100% ready.

I like anything that swims. In fact I had a great day today on my favorite early spring freshwater haunt. Fished from noon till about 4 and caught 27 largemouth, 12 crappie and 4 pickeral and had the place all to myself...well me and a dozen swan.

I'd love to hook myself a billfish one of these days. Seen enough fishing shows to know that would be a lot of fun, but a lot of work as well. Good luck and don't forget CPR (catch-photograph-release).

I did manage a little more than a dozen schoolies to 20 inches on the way home from work tonight in about an hours trying... Granted these were holdover fish (suprisingly clean though ??? ) but the line was pulling the other way - Not 1 400# blue marlin but they did have stripes running down the sides ;D

Mr. Kav - forgot to tell you that the airport delivery service fee goes to $100K if you win the million bucks. ;P

This is why I can't get him interested in some April fishing for schoolies or small keepers in RI!

Good luck!

Thanks for all the best wishes. It should be alot of fun and as " got stripers" say's it is allot of work. I will be fishing with friends which makes it allot easier. except when there are back to back hook ups which is very hard on the back.

"steve from mass" I don't mind catching schoolies I love fish pulling on the end of my line. I just get especially excited when a fish can pull REAL hard.

"specialist" good luck on your trip to Miami don't be surprised if you get a few wahoos on the end of your line. I personally feel that they are exceptional eating. although fresh dolphin (no, not flipper) and tuna aren't to shabby as well.

" got stripers" that is a great day of largemouth fishing. As for the (CPR) I agree 100 % I try and get a picture of most of the released fish. but you forgot the tagging. I have been part of almost 100 tagged fish whether it be as the angler or the mate but I only heard on 1 being caught again. A 110 lb white marlin off bermuda and it was caught again off the bahamas two years later. that was pretty cool to hear.

"Chris L" I wish you luck in april on your camping/fishing weekend. This should be a special trip for you with your daughter. Some off my greatest memories fishing is with my father as a kid. you never forget those types of trips.

"Jenn" when are going to see those thames river stripers?

" John R " if we are fortunate enough to place in any of the price money I'm sure the government is going to take a big out of it. i just hope the fish bite as hard they will.
