how about taking that money and buy new body armor for our soliders who are getting shot at in Iraq? Or reinforcing their hummers with more amour?
instead, pure political bs to "fluff" the polulace into fixing the economy.

That would be a tax increase!
I believe this is just an advance on your next years taxes anyway.

Im just saying the $ would be better spent going to better equip our soliders. who from what I hear, still need it. No increase, just use the money elsewhere.
In WWII there were gas rationing, steel, rubber, meat, etc. Now, we're getting $ back?? For or against the war, the public should be sharing in the sacrifice and I think the soliders deserve the $

I was just speaking with a woman at the Post Office who was sending her son in Iraq some long underwear! Guess its cold there and I also guess Uncle Sam does not dress our soldiers warmly enough?
Sidenote: He is also in a tent as he has just arrived there and there are not enough barracks for everyone??? Does the Army not buy them anything??

500 is a joke considering that if our national debt was distributed evenly each and every person would owe around 30 grand.....
If you ask me those checks should have a clause that they are only good for buying AMERICAN products made IN AMERICA by companies that SUPPORT AMERICAN MANUFACTURING....
I think i am ranting. tooo much coffee.

You will get $600 ($1200 if married) back but you will owe $600/$1200 back later... It's a loan or a "refund advance" on your refund for 2008... nothing more...except that it will make your refund for 2008 in 2009 $600/1200 less....
I guess allot of people forgot how the last one worked. FYI... according to the information i heard my son who is 6 years old will be getting $300 back... then I will have to file the tax rebate form for him and send back $300 because he wasn't entitled to a rebate.

After seeing first hand the type and quality of the equipment our Army uses over there I agree the money could be spent better. We have troops in tent villages shooting guns from the vietnam era.If they are lucky enough to get personal armor they will get a 70lb vest thats only good for fragments not direct impacts. The trucks are ancient and parts are impossible to find for them as they are at least twice as old as any given soldier. They come home with the stress of war and get denied and ignored by the Military doctors.Sad how we've seen this happen in the past and still haven't fixed it.The lousy money they are sending us is just to try and make us feel better about the government and the current situation of our economy.May even boost a surge of immigrants to come here. The gov't is giving us 600 dollars to spend.I'm sure that all the illegal immigrants will find a way to collect the checks.Yeah we have money to blow........
The whole thing is shady in my opinion and no good.I will take the money because it would be stupid not to but there are better things it should and could be spent on.

Yeah, you are right. I was working credit card fraud with a government agency and we were concentrating on the Chase cards that were handed out.
Over 70% of the purchases were for non-essential items. Mostly cigs and booze and, oh yeah, trips to casinos
