It's all fun and games until one of those little bastards decides to jump when you're wading slightly above your waist in the darkness and sinks a 3/0 treble in your bicep while he hangs from the other 3/0...
I like my Boga and I've carried one for many years, although I often don't use it even when I have it. But every once in a while you get that fish that just seems to have it in for you or has a plug wedged oddly on it's face and that's when it comes out. It adds just enough buffer to make dealing with a fiesty fish a whole lot safer. Deciding not to carry it on me all the time last year really bit me in the ass. The arm, actually. It was back on my belt immediately after the above incident.

here is a question.... OK maybe more of an opinion.
Topic: Hook Set
what do you think dictates a good hook set?
to clarify. all things being equal, same size rod, reel, same line, drag setting, "J" hooks, lures or jigs
the action of the rod or the drag? both?
wondering....

the full moon looks orange sometimes when it rises because the light has to pass through more of the atmosphere then when the moon is higher in the sky. the blue light waves scatter but the red light waves pass through...... if you were wondering.

They are at total war with fish! he men who have the latest and greatest of what they were told to buy! yet they have no clue what the wind is doing...oops, Forgot that one!
Then the guy walks off the beach in hip boots and grundens hauling a 40 over his shoulder! Its hilarious..
These guys dont even want to touch a fish anymore! Now a boga grip is the way to land a fish! They do all of this mind you to match wits with an animal that has a brain the size of a pin head..and all that lame gear is needed to partake in this battle of real men. They exole themselves of how "hard" they fished all night to land that bass....how reaching for the boga almost had them lose ballance while they waded out 6 million yards to climb up on a rock like a baffoon to master the beast..(buying a boat is smarter in this case and can acually prolong life, but thats another story)
here is whats next...Soon there will be another gadget for there lame looking belts full of all that useless gear...It will be a med kit for fish...It will have anit-biotic shots to give the fish to treat a host of illness's they may have, they may contain narcotics to lesson the pain and suffering they caused on the fish along with this portable oxygen to get there fish back in good shape...
When you meet these people they walk around like they are holding this huge secret and you cant dare ask where they caught there large bass....Gimmie a break, as for me I could give a good cheet where anyone catches, let alone some wet behind the ears kid thinking he has pulled the wool over the eyes of a guy who has done it a million times...They dont talk, they just smirk, the whispers begin, "hey did you hear how good those guys did those two weeks in August" wow there sharpies..They have all that gear you know, they know what there doing...
Fishing is not that complicated...its all a matter of putting in the time

On how difficult it is to understand women....
A friend of mine just retired as a dot com multi millionaire and finally buys his dream house on the beach. Now he has everything that he ever dreamed of (guy is kinda shallow). So he’s walking on his new private beach one morning and he comes across this lamp. So he rubs it and out pops a genie. The genie says to him, “I’ve been in that bottle for 500 years. Thanks for letting me out. As a token of my appreciation I’m going to grant you one wish for anything you want.” So my millionaire buddy thinks to himself, “well, I pretty much have everything I’ve ever dreamed of, but I love Europe and I hate flying. “Build me a bridge to Paris”, he says. The genie rolls his eyes, wipes his brow, starts to perspire and says, “Wow! A bridge to Europe, so much to think about, steel, concrete, engineering for over 3000 miles. Is there anything perhaps a little easier that you may want instead?” So my buddy starts to think about it again, finally he says, “ok, make it so that for the rest of my life I will always understand women.” The genie starts to sweat again and after fidgeting for several minutes says, “one lane or two?”.

I hope I am taking your comment the wrong way!!! I think I can count the amount of fish I kept last season on one hand and yes every bite WILL be eaten (some still in the freezer). I never have a problem with someone keeping a fish for the table. The point I was getting at was some people are SO against keeping/killing fish and think that just because they release every fish they are magically exempt from fish mortality. Some fish will die. I agreed with Bloo's comment about if you worry about the fish being hurt THAT much than maybe you should not fish at all.

Jenny, Jenny, Jenny, Jenny and the Jets com'on now girl freind, I was speaking in general. Its kinda of like recycling, you can only do your part and not worry about your careless neighbor. Imo, to many guys (myself included at times) repeatedly want to impress their neighbors. Just saying I landed a couple 30# isn't enough, they can't take the time out to take a pix, heck they may miss a fish.
I often wonder...if they where in a situation where they where one of the last people on earth, some kind of catastrafy, would they continue to fish the way they do now? Hell freakin NO! They'd have no one to impress and they wouldn't wanna clean fish either.

Well for one, I don't think I'm a "selfish pig". I am guilty of often taking my legal limit of Striped-Bass home with me. I don't display my fish thru-out the neighbor-hood looking for admirers. Most of the time it's in the dead of night, and NO-ONE even knows I've come or gone. During the fall I stock freezer(s), there are some who no longer fish but truly enjoy the fruits of my labor and the labor of friends who sometimes fish with me and offer their fish to me knowing where it will end up. Not on the market nor the internet but in someone's basement freezer, not filleted as that wastes too much ( meat/fish) in their eyes, so they chop it up and use every possible piece of ( meat) that the fish has to offer, head, eyes and all. We didn't ALL come from a deep golden pocket who would rather buy clean, bleached fish rather then undress their own. I enjoy the act of giving. In my case it is very self-less. It's very rare that you see pictures of my fish on the net, normally they're used as Jokes to a thread, not for self proclamation.
I eat fish all winter, had some last week for that matter. It was delicious, even to a "pig" like me. The families that I provided fish for last season were VERY grateful, and there were no gifts exchanged for the fish, only LOVE in one way or another. We all have our reasons for keeping the legal limit. We shouldn't judge unless we're ready to be judged ourselves.
LeCounts1099 - I respect your outlook and your attempt at keeping the fish mortality to your lowest possilbe number. You are following your heart as I am mine, and I admire that quality. Please keep in mind that we ..as 2 different people, could possibly have our heart lead us into taking different actions, neither one being less noble. (Again, not looking for nobility here from anyone, respect is NOT gained on the internet).

Goose,
Sorry if it seemed like a personal attack, I think & hope you know it wasn't meant that way. It just seemed like a good opportunity to share in why some of us keep the fish that we do. I'd like to think there are others like me, who do not keep fish solely for monetary value nor Internet value, but infact to satisfy others.
If I don't have a pre-home for the fish that are caught that night, and my own cavity is full, they go back. It's not about raping the stock or show-boating nor anything else for that matter, it's about filling someone's eyes with joy and quenching my own thirst for doing things that a LOT of people lack these days, giving without wanting to receive. I don't have much to offer, and to the right person....a freshly caught fish is "price-less".
My father didn't teach me how to fish primarily for enjoyments' sake, when we caught fish, it meant there was less money spent at the market, life was different back then coming from a different country with NOTHING but pride in oneself. Luckily, I don't have to fish for that reason, but I'll never forget those times and that there are always people out there like that, who could use any additional help as we did growing up.
I KNOW you know where I'm coming from - Gee-force slapper ... ........

...by the way, youz' guys are in trouble now, I'm coming out of hibernation for awhile, so expect to be attacked on your STUPID threads as well as encouraged on your RESPECTFUL ones.
...and I'm not worried about a BAN, that's the flavor of my deoderant already, so I'm used to the feeling.
.........sorry, no questions for "#^^^^^^&" either........maybe a question for John though -
If #^^^^^^& will no longer be posting, perhaps a thread started or directed at him should be removed/locked? Seems our lovely moderators have no problem locking other threads, why not this one? Maybe fishaholeic is right and moderators as well as members enjoy this type of thread. ??? . . .
Nothing personal Mr. & Mrs. moderators....you know I have much respect for most of you.

Bloo...I can only speak for myself here but when I saw the thread and read it I thought about locking it......but after thinking about it a little more I realized that many would be looking for a reason for his absence and that explained it....I did not see anyone attacking him so thats is why I let it be. I am still new to this moderating thing and finding it hard at times to make the right choice. One way or another someone will not be happy.

I completely understand the complexity of making the right decision when it affects so many people and I also understand your hesitation in being a new mod - Don't forget, you were chosen for a reason Very level-headed, passionate about fishing and NOT a groupie of any clique on here. I believe you share John's views as to which type of people this site should cater to...Family, friendly, respectful "netizens of S-B". <<yeah, JR...that wuz a little corny.. >>
But Jenn, thanks for replying - and forgive me for putting my post above in the wrong thread, at the time that I typed it, I thought I was in the "did #^^^^^^& get banned" thread and John already locked that one earlier today....
There were some cheap shots in that thread, and it's not healthy to pick on someone who can't defend or explain themself.
