advice on simple spring project.

need some advice on what kind of stone to border a shed.

i just had a 12x 20 shed put on my property last year. i bordered it with crushed stone. now i want something to put down this spring to hold the crushed stone and prevent it from scattering all over the lawn. maybe some flagstone, but definately not those plastic borders you buy in a big roll at home depot. not sure what's what's inexpensive. and what looks good. going for more of a natural look.

If your near the woods anywhere in mass there are walls extending for miles.I would just walk the walls and look for some semi flat stones and bury them half way making a makeshift retaining wall.That crushed stone can become a real menace when it spreads on the lawn.Make sure you have a good weedguard under that crushed stone also can be a pain weeding rockbeds.

check on the weedguard. i lined the packed stonedust foundation i laid with it. and also lined under the crushed stone.

i guess that's an inexpensive option. and natural. thanks

I have a very dim view of that practice. It's private property, you can't just help yourself because you think that the owner isn't using that wall. Ask me how I came to this state of mind.

Cobble Stones is what I would use.

I did the same with the crushed stone and put cobblestones, no problems after that. Neighbors were getting tired too of hearing stones flying by at 90 mph while I cut the grass.

Was that you that yelled at me that time ? I was only looking for a few rocks to build a small border around a little rockbed.I wasn't trying to move your property line.

Now you have me wondering.....Tell us how you came to that state of mind !

I agree - and I don't even own a stone wall.

Cobblestones are very expensive [about $5 per stone?].

You might want to consider laying pressure treated 2x4's or 2x6's on edge and staking them in place, or using landscape timbers.

The more affordable edging is the cement scalloped or straight edging, homedepot has a few to pick from. If you like wood they carry 8' landscape edging, something like 5''x5"x8" round edge on top they are affordable, or, you can go with the PT same size no round edge on top more money. Cobble last forever and look great BUT, grass will work its way into the stones, more maintenance unless you cement them in. For shed I'd let the grass grow right up it it or use PT for a border.

what's everyones take on pressure treated wood on a lawn that has termites. i thought they can't get into that, but not sure.

The pressure treated lumber you buy today is not the same hazardous lumber that was sold a year [+-] ago. They changed the treatment formular. Don't no how it would hold up to termites. You may have to spray for them yourself.
