Fishing on the canal with my brother. My brother and I are NOT close but when my father passed away in September my brother and I were making funeral plans with my mom and the funeral director brought up fishing. We started talking about fishing with the FD and after we left the funeral home I asked my brother if he wanted to sling some snakes at the canal to reduce the stress level. He accepted the offer..

He met me at my house at 2:00am and we drove down to the canal with another friend of mine, all three of us had our bikes with us we stopped at a few of the known eel slinging locations. We had alot fish attacking the eels but no actual hookups. During that time we had great conversations and had an overall great time.

The cool thing was after we left around noon the next day fish started bustin all over the place...my brother and my friend were too tired to fish but I was glad to see my brother see a mini canal blitz....great time! Hopefully we can do it again but under better circumstances.

first best-the september morning my 10 year old son got his first surf caught keeper & then 2 or 3 casts later watching him fight 2 10 lb blues on an AH pencil at the same time- he was one spent little dude....

2nd best- was in late november- he hooked what would be his last bass of the season but (without being asked by me) called his younger sister over to fight it- she was so excited (it was her first bass) and he was such the "big brother" awsome stuff ill never forget.

This past fall my older brother, after prompting from me to get out and go fishing, was calling me and telling me how the fishing was up in Winnipesaukee. He has a house not from the lake, and he'd get home in time to get an hour of 2 of evening fishing in.
Now he knows how I feel about fishing, and the fun and relaxation that it brings.
Now that I've got another fishaholic in the wings, we can plan on taking our nieces and nephews (his kids included) fishing more regularly.

One of my most personal treasured fishing moments happened a number of years ago, years before my father passed away.
We were fishing down in Brewster, at Flax Pond in Nickerson State Park. My father preferred to fish with a fly rod with sinking line.
He wasn't really a fly fisherman, since he didn't cast flies or lures, but he liked the fight he got on a fly rod. He would fish his 2 lines, and I mine, seated as comforatbly as possible in a 12" pram.
He had just pulled up another 6" perch, of which there were plenty.
As he set his line, I checked his other, and unhooked another perch.
Well, as I was pulling up his other line, a HUGE smallmouth bass appeared from under the boat and inhaled the perch while it was still hooked. I gave the line a tug, hoping to set the hook through the perch and into the bass, but only succeeded in pulling the perch out of it's mouth.
As I explained this to my father (who was a little hard of hearing), he pulls up on his other line, and tells me "I'm snagged on something. I think I hooked the anchor line."
I laughed and said "It can't be the anchor line, because it's behind me, and it's running away from the boat". I lean forward and grab the rod, just long enough to stop him from jigging back and forth, and when I did, I felt the head shake of a really good fish.
(Unfortunately, the pictures do this story better justice than I could ever convey, but picture the following My father sitting at the stern of the boat with his fly rod doubled over, it's tip is submerged as he proceeds to reel the fish up from the deep. It takes him 10 -15 minutes before we get a glimpse of the fish, and we're both awestruck. He had hooked into a smallmouth in the 4-5 lb. range, that when held at chin level hung down to his lap.
Although we never did hit the saltwater together, our freshwater excursions were quite memorable.

My dad taught me to fish, so I'm just trying to carry on the tradition.
This time I'm getting the kids to the ocean as well as the ponds.

Here's to every kids' father & mother, and every parents' sons & daughters.

I didn't catch too many big fish this year, so that was cool for me.
The other was sticking a whole Bud bottle down the gullet of a good fish that Mikey got in Ct right at the beginning of the season.
Boy was he surprised when he cut open the stomach!

Had 2 memorable days.

1. Taking my mom and dad fishing. Dad knows what he is doing but mom needed a few lessons. She can now cast conventional. If only i had an 8' rod for her, the 1208 was a bit too much for her to handle.

2. Getting my PB on topwater during a nasty squall that i watched move up the bay, and when it finally hit the fish went nutty for a half hour. A day i will never forget.

Everything is better on the rocks.

I had each of my nephews up from PA for a visit and trips to the Stiper surf, separately, last summer.

Best days were the days they hooked up ~my youngest with a 27" striper~my odlest neph with triple hookups within 5 mins. at a smallie and largie hole i know on the NShore. we caught and released 15 bass within 40 minutes. Those days were the best for me, passing the torch stuff..........and they gotts it baaaaaaad .

Personally, my best time in the surf was NOT the night i released my first 30#'er. My most exhilarating and bittersweet night was the night last year when I experienced my first set-up on an eel, i lost the biggest monstah i've ever hooked, and realized that my honey hole is way more prolific than i first thought ~~all on the same fish.

This year ~SHOULD BE~ off of the charts, boyz!!!!

They were all good. From Paul's plastic jetty in the upper bay, to the canyons, to pounding rocks with Joe, to taking Nebe and goosefishy blackfishing. capped with a few good nights in November.
good year.
decent fishing
always fun, always room for improvement.

Watching my daughter catch 8" snapper blues all afternoon. That beats every trophy I have ever caught. It is what fishing is all about.

My most memorable experience was catching my first bluefin. Even more memorable was that my dad was with me. Hopefully there will be many more this year.

My most memorable moment this past season,

Hanging off a red can out off Plymouth harbor in PEA SOUP FOG, I was sounding my horn and hooking up with fish we heard a big boat motoring up then 50yds off my BOW he was inside of the red CAN outbound underway A Capt'n John boat I got on the VHF and started yelling they finally saw me with 3 spotters RADAR GO figure , you can pick the CELTIC-KNOT up on radar.
They came back on the radio saying i didn't see ya
well we made it anyways but that was a wake up call

Great year. Remember, if you are fighting cancer, every year may be your last so I thank God for each fishing season, the good friends and the best of times.

No boat, back in the suds.

I've had 2 separate days this yr where I landed over 750 lbs of bass. All on lures..First one I was by myself which caused a friend of mine to have some doubts.Well we where together for the second 5 hr blitz and that erased the doubts..I had caught so many fish.I was physically exhausted.I was teasing em,yanking the swimmer away from em..Another night of tough fishing surrounded by 12 others during a tourney( I had one of the few fish weighed in the night prior).I yanked out a 20 lb class fish right in front of em all..That was priceless and almost as good as the other 2...
Getting another 30 lb class fish out of the ditch when I made the call to go there instead of Montauk where it was also good.Than again,I learned something else this season fishing one of my favorite spots.Just another trick up my sleeve..Has me fired up for this season..It's all good ...
