I'm an American Citizen....but my Ethnicity is Irish
I served in the armed forces of the Country where I was Born and am a Citizen of....But I recognize and appreciate where my forefathers were raised before they came to this country.
I'm proud to be American and I'm proud of my Irish Heritage.....there's nothing wrong with that.

perhaps
east end lu's question should have been phrased
Which proud straight Americans here at s-b has Irish ancestry ?
My father would never admit to being part Irish because he was more proud to be known
as having Scottish ancestors like our blood line was pure scot... or something along those lines...
