Mexico Fishing Guides?????? Close to Riviera Maya

Looks like I'll be headed down there in late September and from a little research it looks there are some flats near the Excellence resort where I'll be staying. Possibly some opportunites for Tarpon, Bonefish and even Permit

Anyone here have any experience or guide recommendations in that area?

You should also be able to score some snook in that region - not on the flats but in the mangroves around the harbor and any adjacent rivers,harbors and bays - as to be expected, they will take position on key ambush spots - but may also hang off the edges of the flats - haven't seen many on the same flats as bonefish, usually inside more ...

... for the bonefish though, you should also be able to do some wading for them on the flats - just walk on, I know many people who have taken that route on trips to that region and done very, very well. It's a fly fishing game though, and you have to shuffle your feet so as not to step on a sting ray and get stung ... not good, very damaging, may make for a short honeymoon ... but if you shuffle your feet, no problems ... bonefish are easy to spot and can be very aggressive if you don't walk around like you have cinder blocks tied to your ankles, quietly shuffle your feet and cast accurately with a tasty looking fly ...

... if you can find any beaches adjacent to flats, and that also have drop offs ... fish those as well. When I lived on Key Biscayne, I used to fish the beaches on the Key for bonefish all the time, it was excellent ... the fish run the beaches on a regular basis and do that pretty much any where they live, so long as they don't get disturbed by too much commotion or traffic ...

... but for guides in that region - either check with the local chamber and or tourist organization, as well as the fly fishing sites such as fly fisherman, saltwater fly fishing, sportfishing and saltwater sportsman likely have tips on guides in that area. Also is a journal called the "Angling Report" or "Angler's Report" ... something like that ...

... it's run by a guy named Don Causey down in Miami - or was when I lived down there - it's designed to offer traveling anglers tips on guides and locations. It was the first peer-to-peer destination rating publication I was aware of - very informative and good information with honest reviews. Check it out online, Don may have moved it to the Internet.
