Black bear in gansett
I was driving through gansett last night when i saw about 10 enviromntal police trucks ,4-6 police cars and about 15-18 people flashing their lights in the trees looking around. Wtf? ASked what was going on, a black bear cub has been wandering around through peoples yards. heh

"The DEM said it would continue to monitor the situation and hope the bear, which likely came from out of state, eventually finds its way to a place to call home -- but not in Rhode Island. "
That's the way I feel every year from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend... but not about bears.

Last nights news said that it was spotted swimming across the Narriow River and the posse was after hiom. Apparently it disappeared again into the woods and they lost track of it. I hope the poor bear cub makes it into some more rural setting before the people get him.

My wife saw the DEM trucks with the big cage in the back of one of them at Casey Farm on 1A this morning on her way to work. No bear in the cage though. Maybe it was roaming around Casey Farm looking for a free breakfast...

I used to work with a guy from up around Foster and he has bears around his house fairly regularly. Probably wandered down Rte 102 from up there somewhere.

My parents live in Scituate, RI and have pictures of a moose that was hanging around the area near their house. They live about 1/4 mile in the woods and this thing was just wandering around w/o a care in the world.

Sow now in addition to walking through packs of Coyotes to get to my spots I need to sneak past bears. What's next?

One bear is a lot more of a problem than a whole bunch of coyotes!
i once saw a nature video (maybe Marty Stouffer?) of a bear cub running for his life from a full grown Mountain lion. Well eventually the bear cub got cornered and could not run anymore so he turned around and belted the mountain lion in the head. the lion went head over heels then got up dazed , looked at the bear cub and ran for his own life! It was a great video !
