Hi Karl,
Dumped the land line years back but my wife got it back late in 2006 as part of a pkg. with Comcast.
Couple of uses:cell is low or charging, often our cells will have poor reception depending on who (where they are) we are speaking with.
I liked the just cell better as there are less intrusions but what if its an important call and cell cannot be reached for whatever reason.

If you have satellite television you need it because that's how they do the program updates and customer interaction, so as long as I have Dishnetwork I guess I'll have it. Once I find a way around that I'll use my new Majicjack on my PC for free calls anywhere in the US and Canada, it's a great product and the phone bill is $19.95 a year for free long distance, no minutes to worry about and all the other perks too like caller ID and call waiting.
Gotta love modern technology!

I will never get rid of it until the teleco's decide they dont have enough customers any longer to keep the service ( it will eventually fade ) . We use ip-phones at work and thats a lot of dialtone lost .
I have a brother who counts on users that need installs and repairs to their land lines . I too was in the dialtone end for many years ( now the data end ) . And besides you need a court order to listen to me on my landline not on cell or cordless . we have 4 cell phones , 2 dsl's and 2 landlines in my house . We like AT&T !!

Dumped the land line about 2 months ago.
I was forced into a change by Comcast so I dumped comcast.
I never used the landline anyway. I am never home.

As soon as Truro gets DSL, my wires are toast. Refuse to pay the Cable Co.

Being in the rental business, I have seen my tenants go from almost 100% land lines in the mid 90's to less than 10% now. Why pay Verizon $50+ a month to a line that, if there is a problem, you have to take a day off of work to wait for a tech that may or may not show up (as opposed to bringing your cell to the store), get whacked for all the little ticky tacky charges, or get a cell for $30 a month that includes the bells & whistles and that goes everywhere you do?
I still keep my land line out of business necessity, but whereas for years I had two lines I'm down to one.

We have the landline as part of our Comcrap package. We thought about getting rid of it to eliminate a bill, but then thought about the 911 service. With a small child at home, I don't want to take any chances if we need to get emergency services to the house. I can't risk no cell signal or a dead cell battery. Also, our home security system runs through the phone line.

I want to dump it and hubby does not. Quite frankly I see no reason to pay for 2 cells phones and a land line when no one ever calls us anyway!!!

I guess I'm the downer to this thread. I just cannot get used to dropped calls and the delay in conversations so I tend to use my cell phone less than the house phone. But I actually user both fairly infrequently. Not very progressive thinking for a person working in the high speed communications industry, huh?

Come on, old man, cut the cord. Only thing that sucks is the innumerable lost calls during conference calls.
Other than that, I'd never go back.

I haven't had a land line in like 4 years and don't see a need for one. it's annoying if I'm trying to get a hold of my wife and I know she's home but her phone is turned off but that doesn't happen too often.

Land line for business purposes, but have a few issues with going all cell. I have cell service and have for many years. There are issues with the cell service that we all overlook and I will list a few here.
Poor reception - many areas are really bad.
Lousey quality of sound reception - staitic and noise.
Lost phone = lost phone telephone # directory.
Phone is small and easily lost.
Battery issues. battery is usually good for a year or so and then it starts to short cycle and die when in use.
Battery costs as much as a new car battery.
Cell service sucks - they will try and sell you a new phone before fixing the existing one. If on insurance plan you have to wait while they send your phone out for inspection. No such thing as a loaner.
Cells do not function well when wet. ( ask tagger).
Cell service costs are skyrocketing along with the oil prices.
Just a few reasons I will keep my land line for awhile at the least.

I do believe that if you have a phone line to the house, and a phone plugged in, that it must be able to call 911.
same thing with a cell phone, even if the service is cancelled any cell phone is supposed to be able to call 911.
when i moved to my new house, i didnt take the land line with me.
my folks have been paying for that number though so I am thinking of taking it with me for the one reason that everyone has it and that it is in the book.
distant friends and family cant look up my cell number.
