Finding a custom builder
Many of you are fishing with custom built rods, whether by yourselves or other rod makers. I'm slowly coming around to the view that I'd like (and can afford) a custom surf rod. But I have very little manual skill and not much patience for fine work like wrapping thread around the guides. I would be happy to work with a good rod builder (preferably one who's built surf, or at least saltwater, rods before). Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who does this. I live in the greater Wash DC area, though I do more of my saltwater fishing on Cape Cod, so builders in either place would work.
Does anyone know if there's any sort of directory somewhere I could access and start making some calls or emails?
Thanks in advance,
Barracuda

Ive got a fantastic rod builder in the dc area. He was the rod builder in plum island up north here and he's working in dc currently as an architect. If you want the contact info pm. His name is Neil Allen and his rods are INSANE.

Raven,
Thanks for mentioning the S-B sponsors list; I hadn't thought of that. I found one rod builder on the list -- "Custom Crafted Rods by Saltheart," if I read it correctly. But when I click on the link, I get the following error message: "You are not authorised to view this resource.
You need to login." Which I don't understand, since I am/was logged in...
Any other way to check it out?

You could try to pm Saltheart directly.. Usaully builders work in the off season because most are diehard fishers.. I know there are many big fans of Salthearts work and to get right in there,,now ,, would be a miracle .. good luck ..
