Report from S. Maine

I spent the last two weeks in southern Maine around Wells/Kennebunk/York/ Portsmouth/ Ogunquit. Fished everyday (sometimes nights but mostly around 4 am to 8am). Used different techniques. Caught 9 on the fly rod wading various tidal rivers. Outgoing tide, clausers and sand eel imitations. Spent one day on Picataqua river and area ocean, GREAT...4 of us landed about 20 stripers (kept 2, the only ones of the trip)using fresh caught makerel and not fresh herring. Also caught several on plugs. Nothing too big by this boards standards, but all fun. The surf casting was the worst I've seen in 20 years. I only took 2 small fish...BUT a buddy pulled in a 43 inch cow one morn on makerel chunk and lost one almost as big on the next cast. Even tried eels off the rocks one night...not a bite.

All in all a great trip. Thank you to all who gave me tips/ updates and encouragement leading up to my trip. To those guys still out there...I wish I was too. Back fishing stripers in a month.
