Finially

Finially had a night to remember at the canal Wed night. Hit the canal after work was fishing by 4:30 pm. Slack was about 6PM high tide about 7:30 pm. Fished plugs and chunk till after about 7:45 moved a little but not far, nothing no signs. By this time my lunch for noon time is long gone and I'm considering leaving for my 11/2 hour ride home. However when I got back to the car I decided to lighten the load and fish more. I left 1 rod and my backpack at the car figuring that I would travel more with less crap. I took only 1 rod and a small plug bag. I didn't have to go far, I walked a short distance to where I was alone and found fish breaking. First cast with a black surface darter it was nailed. About a 10lb blue, well not what I was after but better than a skunk. Four casts and 5 blues later I decided to go a little deeper with a black bomber. First cast nailed the head shake told me striper 26". For the next 21/2 hours every cast was a fish or near miss I got fish 24" to 30" all fat and fisty. Not trophies but fun and more fish than I ever had at the canal. Also went deep with a black rubber eel with spoon bouncing the bottom when the current started to slow again, which produced some of the bigger fish. Makes you want to go back. All fish were released still have fish in freezer.

good job. I got there Wed. after work at about 11:30 and never got a hit till I left at 1:30. I fished large wood and an eelskin plug. Did see some caught on eels.

I left right about 11 and the fish still hitting, got home at 12:30 washed off the gear and myself, in bed by 1:30 up at 5:00 am for work after pulling in more fish than I can count I was sore the next day. Not as young as I was once, it was a good feeling though.

If you drive an hour and a half to fish there after working all day you have my respect, fish or no fish. Well earned success.
