Outer Cape spots this weekend?
I'll be in the Wellfleet area this weekend (10/11) and am hoping to get some shore fishing in. Where should I go? Atlantic side, Wellfleet Harbor or to the Bay? Or should I take the plunge and head down to the canal?
Thanks a lot!

No one is actually going to tell you where to go, if that is what your looking for. At this time of year any place is as good as another, just pick one and go.
If you go the the "other" site in mass forum as "Longcaster" about what you want to know.
He can't keep a secret and longs to be looked up to, not being a wise ass but he will tell you what is going on, along with the 100 other people as well who asked him.

This issue was discussed before and many reasons were cited, just let it go.

I should have been clearer, I wasn't expecting anyone to tell me exactly where to go, just more general direction; like "there's nothing in Wellfleet, give it up" or "the ocean beaches have been great" etc. etc.
In any case I'll see if I can drag my @ss out of bed early and see which way the wind blows me.

Balston on a Friday night can be "hell" with a lot of weekend guys but I have taken some dandies in October from in front of the big dune.

Alex,
This can be a phenominal time on the back beach or it can be a bust. What was true yesterday might not be true tomorrow. Only way to know is to go. Fish will go through in waves so the idea is to stack the deck in you favor and be out there, at night. If they are not in front of you, move, and keep moving.

I have no problem telling you that the Canal has cooled off considerably over the last several days. At least for me. I even got skunked for the first time in a month Saturday night.
There's a good set of tides coming up, though. YMMV.

Just to report back: I made it out to Race Point at about 6:30 -- too late I know, but I had my kids with me and got delayed -- saw no fish and no cross dressing bikers. When we got back to Wellfleet though we stopped at the pier where there were tons of pogies. We snagged a few of them so that kids could say they caught some fish -- they were thrilled! I was hoping that there'd be some blues in there chasing the pogies, no such luck though we did see a seal in there on Monday.

The weather, though great for a family getaway, was far from perfect for fishing. I fished the back beaches Sunday night and we took school bass that woud hit only the largest needles we had on the first of the incoming then they shut off and even then the fishing was not good for them the numbers a were very few.
Too much moon, high pressure conditions aloft, there was bait, no seals and no people where we were othere than us three.
Lot's of walking along those east beaches and though it was a pretty night nothing much to show and not much was expected anyway.
That's fishing.

First skunkings I had since mid June occurred for me this weekend. Picked up a few Sat AM, Sun and Monday were a bust. I think there are still a few waves of fish to come through though. Saw some tuna busting for a few minutes in pretty close during the day, By the time I got my yak out there it was dead though.

Thinking about how the tuna we hooked into dragged the 18'er we were in about 2 miles, it must make a kayaker look like they're water skiing.
Any reports of someone landing a 100+lb tuna in a kayak?

I'm thinking someone's must have done it. These looked like smaller fish in the 50-70# range. I don't think I'm supposed to even cast at them, but I needed to investigate. They might have been giant stripers. What I saw from the beach definitely did not look like stripers breaking. They came out of the water differently. But like I said, I needed to investigate.

ALL IS QUITE
Nobody is missing a thing. From Plum Island to the Canal to Race Point, all shore fishing has been very quiet for the first part of October.
Fromwhat I've been hearing from a few guys with boats the same is true with them.
Just keep trying. Fish are where you find them, put in the time and you'll catch them but the action is slow, very slow.
