How to copy LP albums to CD

Just got a new computer with CD burner (and DVD burner )

Question is, I'd like to copy a bunch of old LP's to CD, is there any easy and relatively inexpensive hardware/software to set up my computer so that I can do this? I guess I would need some type of audio input to the computer (USB?) , and maybe a program to process?

I remember seeing all those albums stacked onto the turntable, then giving way and falling on the arm scratching whichever record was playing. Ahhhh memories.

Fishsmith, thanks, that helped quite a bit. I tried searching, but didn't come up with squat. It looks like I need a sound editing program to clean up the recording. Looks like its also time consuming The Sound Recorder in accessories should copy the input as a WAV file, but won't edit--but may be good enough.

Oh how I miss Napster!! That technology was wonderful. At is peak, Anything you wanted...or could even think of was available.
I think the music industry screwed up.
1) extreme overcharging for years is what led to this IMO
2) Napster had the best distribution system bar none...others should exploit it...erhaps for software.
3) Yeah...I woulda a paid a dime or a quarter for an old song but now they will not get squat. greed kills. Record sales are in the crapper and will stay that way. They have not figured it out yet.

IMO music execs are A-holes, they should have worked with Napster instead of trying to wipe them out....it was they that lost out. I hope most of them go bk. I have a bunch of music but would have liked to have a couple more terabytes worth....

What you have to do is record your records in a digital format. You need a decent Audio program...there are a bunch out there, some for are available for free. Some of these programs will allow you to deit out pops and nicks in your records...Its not hard...just takes a little time. that was nice about napster...some of the recordings I got were perfect and it required me to do zero work. I would have paid a small fee for that ....

there are others than napster (god rest its soul) . i have one called blubster, it gets the job done and then there is kazza (think thats how you spell it) but that tends to give you billions of pop-ups and downloads promotional stuff like free trials of aim and other anoying stuff.

Looking into an audio program now
Kazaa isn't bad, just started using it. I have dial up and it takes a long time to download some stuff, and hard to connect to other users sometimes

limewire. com is good too just be careful of bugs with downloads from either site!

i use imesh.com. and winamp3.a few pop ups but it runs great.lots of music. and its free.
