Senseless kill

A friend sent me this article.
Boy does this piss me off!
I thought Great Whites were protected?
A totally senseless death of one of the greatest fish in the sea.
What I wouldn't give to have a few more of these around here.

OCEAN SHORES , WA
While the ocean vessel 'Dawn Raider' was commercial fishing for dogfish,
this Great White was hooked in the mouth but only resisted slightly for 15 minutes
before it came up alongside the boat to have a look; long enough for one of the crew
members to slip a rope a round it's tail !!! 'And that's when it the hit the fan!!.
The Shark took off towing the 42 foot fishing boat backwards through the water
at about 7 Knots. Just like in JAW S, the boat was ta king on water over the stern
and the crew watched in horror as the shark would actually jump completely out
of the water at times. This went on for an hour before the shark finally drowned.
She weighed in at 1035 L BS. It is suspected she followed a weak El Nino current
into local waters in search of food. Although mid 60 degree water is considered
ideal for these sharks, the larger ones can tolerate water in the low 50s.

Ocean Shores, Washington, is just an hour or so from Longview, Washington. Longview is north of Portland, 45 miles.
Normally we don't see these little fish up here. Wanna take a swim?

Oh thank God it is a hoax.
That just about ruined my day.
Thank you fishaholic.
Am I wrong in thinking GW's are protected?
I am glad I posted it here and got the truth or I would have been miserable all day thinking about that.
Now I can go off smelt fishing and kill fish I can actually eat

its a mako

front teeth are long and narrow, white's are triangular

also

whites are shaded grey on top and white on the bottom with a distinct line between the 2 colors

this one gradually blends from dark to light.

nice fish!

Thanks. I knew that about the teeth. I think I just got so enraged reading the story I didn't pay attention to the pics.
Now I feel like an idiot.
