I took my father out for his first trip of the year to see if we could catch some groundfish. Left Green Harbor around 9:00 am with a pretty brisk wind and decent chop to make things slow going. We got to the Bank and the sounder lit up. We dropped down and the first drop produced the old mans first keeper cod of the year. We had a really nice drift producing plenty of fish with plenty of keepers to come over the rail. We limited out fairly quickly with the largest cod a respectable 30". We decided then to run around and find some haddock. Out to the east a bit we marked more bait and dropped down and found what we were looking for: Haddock. We put some haddock in the box and decided it was time to leave.
Jigs and teasers were 50/50 split. The seas on the way home were less than a foot and the whale show was great. The fish were coughing up sand eels and herring. A great day out on the water with the old man.
WTG Matt.
They were coughing up Sand eels galore last Sat. I'll post a report when I get back Sat. night. All Cod seemed to be taken one Jigs and Teasers all Haddock was on Bait. Maybe I'll catch another wolf that was DELICIOUS.
