Having A Kayak Shipped??

Thinking of buying my Yak from a dealer in Texas. Price is right, no sales tax and shipping/handling is only $79. Anyone ever do this?? Pros/cons??? Shipped right to my house!!!

BigFish, I have not done this. But, my first question is "What is there return policy?". For example, if boat arrives and has a leak?

I had mine shipped up from Florida for about the same price. They didn’t deliver to my house instead I had to go to the warehouse to pick it up but it was worth it. Didn’t have any problems but it is a good question about the return policy.

Return policy is I pay the return freight.....I am assuming unless it is damaged in shipping then the shipping co. will have to eat it! I will be asking those questions by phone before I place the order.

I bought one from KFS... Shipped to tr#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g center. Well packed I had ZERO problems.

That being said I bought my hobies local. I liked the local dealer and he was very fair on the price.

What's the price difference from buying locally?

Also, have you tried this specific model of kayak on the water? Considering your size I'd want to make damn sure it was able to handle your weight comfortably and be balanced well.

Unless it's a model you can't get around here I'd be astounded if you couldn't get a local shop to price match or at least get in the ballpark.

I would be very concerned about you not liking the yak, not wanting to pay return freight and then be stuck with something that's not perfect. This insurance alone is worth 20% if you ask me.

$2,400.00 locally PLUS SALES TAX......$2,279.00......dropped in my driveway. I told them the online deal......so I do not think they sharpened their pencil at all. Also told them some of the other things I was going to have to buy there sooooo........not very competitive considering they got 2 units in April and have yet to sell one??? They also told me that because the 2 units were shipped separately from their bulk order that Hobie had to charge them $400.00 PER Unit (thats right) PER UNIT for shipping! Does not leave much wiggle room I guess.

I think Hobie has a stipulation in their warranty area. Kayak must be serviced at dealer where sold....unless you moved after purchase.

May be something to look into.....

That's less than a 10% difference, not that much. I can't believe that they wouldn't price match to sell that yak.

I think the 4 bills to ship is BS.

If it were me I'd ask them to match the online price if you agreed to buy it right then, and then ask for a cash discount vs a credit card. That could shave off another $100+ dollars.

$2100 cash on the spot, and a stack of crisp 100 dollar bills. That's not a bad deal for either party, and you get to buy it locally which is even better for you.

I wouldn't worry to much about shipping BF, but like Spence said, have you taken one out for a ride yet? For that kinda dough it would be worth it.

That's a nice ride.I'm stuck going the way of the inflatable so my ride doesn't compare.Gets me out on the water and that's what matters.

A guy on another site just had a great experience with New England Small Craft when his hobie hull sprung a leak, they just replaced his yak on the spot with their inventory... doesn't get much better than that. It was still under warrentee, but still that's good service.
