Blue Rhino Propane Exchange

Blue Rhino stinks! I started doing the tank exchange this year because my local propane place closes early during the week and I've needed it for my Mosquito Magnet. I just filled up for the 3rd time since early May. I thought it seemed like it wasn't lasting as long as it should. I've gone through two tanks in 33 days and I should be getting 21 days per tank. Last night, I go to exchange it and see the small print that says you get 15 pounds of propane in a 20 pound tank! At BJ's and the local place, they actually fill the 20 lb tank with 20 lbs of propane. On top of not actually filling their tanks the whole way, they charge $19 per tank! What a ripoff.

I believe the normal for a 20 lb tank is 18 lbs to allow for expansion.

That being said, I seem to remember reading about a class action lawsuit against Ferrellgas (who might own Blue Rhino) for this very reason.

It is a complete ripoff.

My wife decided to try it one time. Brand new tank and she exchanges it with the gas station for a Blue Rhino. I hook the thing up, and I am already peesed cause I had just bought the other tank, and this thing leaks like a biotch. So I bring it back and ask for my tank back, they try and tell me that they don't know where it is, I tell em I got all day for you to find it..

I read that a lot of propane dealers are starting to fill tanks up less rather than increase the price.
