Think of him what you may, but he's going through a rough time and his treatments have already exhausted his insurance benefits. I don't know that I can personally attend, but wish to make this known in our community.

AN EVENING FOR TRED BARTA

OCTOBER 23, 2009 AT 7:00 P.M.

Three months ago Tred Barta was strickened with a catastrophic disease that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. Tred has been diagnosed with Waldenstrom’s disease, a form of blood cancer for which treatment includes specialized blood cleansing similar to dialysis, and a type of heavy-duty chemotherapy which is taking a hard toll on Tred’s system. At this writing he has been hospitalized for three months.
I have had the pleasure to know Tred for many years. The words that I believe best describe him are that he is full of life and he lives his life to its fullest. I have tried to imagine what he must be going through, but it is beyond my capability. They say God works in strange ways, but Tred truly does not deserve the hand he has been dealt. But in his own way, the Barta way, he continues his fight, always searching for a light at the end of the tunnel and a silver lining to the tragic circumstances that have befell him.
The expenses being incurred by the family for the specialized treatments and medicines required by Waldenstrom’s patients have already far exceeded coverage of any normal health insurance policy, and this is only the first three months of his treatment.
Throughout Tred’s career that has stretched for decades, he has always been a giving, sharing person through his teaching articles, instructional lectures and his Barta Boys and Girls Tournaments that are geared to teaching honor, responsibility, and respect for the marine environment and its inhabitants to the youth of our sport. The time has come for us to give back to help this icon weather the physical and financial storm that has struck him and his family.
The Big Game Fishing Journal is orchestrating "An Evening For Tred Barta," and will coordinate five benefit fund raising auction dinners from Rhode Island to South Florida on October 23, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. to be held at the following restaurants and facilities:

Donations for hunts and fishing charters are pouring in from around the country that will be offered in a silent auction to all who attend our benefit dinner affairs. The industry is truly coming to the call. Here is your chance to help out an old friend and walk away with a trip of a lifetime for a fraction of its cost. We have rods, reels, artist prints, all types of trolling lures, spreader bars, fishing line, waterproof storm cases, hooks, fresh frozen bait, books, Lindgren-Pittman pressure swordfish lights, Navionics electronic chart certificates, Z Wings, Starbrite boat maintenance kits, and the list grows and grows daily.

The executive producer of The Best and the Worst of Tred Barta, Mark Freedman of Surge Licensing, has prepared a video that will be shown at each affair. Mark tells me it will make you laugh and it will make you cry. Come join us on October 23, at 7:00 p.m. and open your heart for one of our own in need.

I have never been a fan of the man, in fact I usually walked in the other direction when I saw him.

His show The best and worst of Tred Barta only showed the worst.in my opinion. The show was a half hour of someone pleading with the audience to love him or acting like a world class jerk. The guides he hired on the show acted like if it wasn't for the payday they would have stayed home. The blooper reel at the end of the Alaska shows recorded the guides making comments and jokes at Tred's expense. Even I felt bad for him!

I am not a fan of a person who brags about his accomplishments and in Tred's case it relates to his ability as a tuna catcher but in the same breath bashes someone for doing what he has done before he knew better.

I am not a fan of the "Barta way". The Barta way is wrong - if you are going to harvest an animal do so with respect and do it humanely, his long bow antics are appalling. if you want to impress me, hit a target accurately so it is dead before it hits the ground!

Having said that, I will be at Oakland's Restaurant to support Tred in his recovery, no matter what he did in the past, no one deserves the hand he was dealt.

I've never been a big fan of Tred Barta and the "Barta Way". His trips to the Canyon and the Chinese Fire-Drill of his fishing technique would drive me to throw he off the boat for chum. Nonetheless, Tred's health issues are a real bummer, and I wish him the best in his recovery.

Just bear in mind that in these calls for financial assistance, Tred is a multi-millionaire with homes in the Hamptons (Southold ?) and Vail Colorado. He has planes and multiple boats worth millions, not to mention the $$'s he's made of those TV shows. I'm not sure with his resources why he needs these charitable contributions. I know with recent cancer diagnosis and treatment, my wife's medical expenses not covered by insurance, came out of my own pocket. Something is fishy here.

I've always liked the guy and have enjoyed his shows and his pure, genuine enthusiasm for being in the outdoors. I'll be contributing and i wish him all the luck in the world.

All of his riches might be mortgaged up the ass, so everything might not be as it seems.
