Striped-Bass.com in the Fisherman

I saw striped-bass.com mentioned in the current issue of The Fisherman magazine.
I've noticed recent articles in different fishing magazines are rehashed forum threads, or are the threads rehashed articles.

I know I've posted some info from there when I thought something was important, like fishery info but most everyone is working from the same pool of info. As for some articles in some of the maggies looking like they come from our threads here (and other sites too) - well, you ain't the only to notice. Imitation = sincere Flatery ? Dunno - but I've seen it too...

Will need to check it out tonight. Anyone else see it?

As for The Fisherman? I was a big fan when Tim C ran it (class act), was not impressed by Mr Levine - both in the magazine and when I saw him at Fishery issues - but I've seen definite improvment under Zach Harvey and would look forward to sharing a beer with the guy sometime. I think the past 6 months has had steady improvement for the New England edition Fisherman... and it rates a thumb up from me again (it was thumbs down last year in my opinion)

Thanks for the Heads up

I think the article was the basics of surf fishing. The author recommends visiting sites like this one for info, but to use the how to's and frequently asked questions areas first.
I've always liked The Fisherman magazine.
It's articles are redundant but, they're focused on local areas, and my memory bites so I don't mind the reminders.

Its an article by Joe (Lyons), on learning surfcasting. In my opinion, it provides good, solid advice for a beginner, including a plug for this site (and another) as a potentia resource.

I think one of the best pieces of advice given in the article for a novice is to begin by fishing relatively well know (ie. crowded) spots, identifying the surfacaster/fisherman who knows what he's doing, and simply paying attention to what he's doing. Nothing beats seeing something done first hand.

I also agree about the quality of the Fisherman this year, definite improvement overall

I agree whole heartedly. I've seen way too many people, especially in the past year trying to go from novice to expert as quick as possible without putting time in, or hunting for spots. There is a learning curve that needs to be followed (granted, some learn faster than I do )

You’re welcome John.
It was a plug, true, but I do feel that websites have the potential to be excellent resources, particularly for beginning anglers. I was excited when I heard you were going to add a how-to section. You seem to be very “hands on” and it shows. Thanks - Joe

Joe - thanks . We all try and I'm always impressed by how many people pitch in and help to make the site what it is...

hey joe lyons, i read your article, "breaking the conventional rules" from "on the water" magazine and it was a genius! why? because what you wrote made senses and i feel the same way about following rules on my own, but i wanted to break it. but how? so im gonna learn.
