Stephen V. Shiraka
EAST FALMOUTH — Stephen V. Shiraka, 54, of East Falmouth, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009.

Stephen was the beloved husband of Deborah A. (Ventura) Shiraka for 30 years and a devoted father to his two young daughters.

Though a resident of Falmouth for 25 years, Stephen was born and raised in Worcester; there, he graduated from Holy Name Central Catholic High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College.

Stephen was skilled in many trades, from electrical work to magazine writing. His latest position was as a facilities manager for Old Rochester Regional School District. He was also a writer and contributor for "On the Water" magazine as well as a frequent lecturer on behalf of the Massachusetts Striped Bass Association.

Stephen's life was shaped by both his love for his wife and daughters, as well as his passion for fishing. His dedication to the sport was widely recognized, earning him respect as a local fishing icon.

In addition to being an avid fisherman, Stephen was a collector of vintage plugs, a skilled craftsman and illustrator, as well as a rock n' roll enthusiast.

Besides his loving wife Deborah, Stephen is survived by his two daughters, Lauren E. and Cara L. Shiraka of East Falmouth; mother, Rita A. Shiraka-Moss of Worcester; and older brother, Richard T. Shiraka of Naples, Fla.

Stephen was predeceased by his father, John V., brother John E. and sister Mary C. Shiraka.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, in the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave., at Route 151, in Mashpee.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave., at Route 151 in Mashpee.

Burial is private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephen's memory may be made to the Stephen Shiraka Memorial Fund, in care of Cape Cod Five, 763 Main St., Falmouth, MA 02540.
