one brutal day of fishing

Cold isn't the word to describe fishing today....It was brutal. I have spent many winters open water fishing over the past years and today had to be one of the harshes, but the fish were eating. Over the past week I have landed 40 salmon on Cape Ponds on metal and jerk baits. The fish havent been big and average 4-8lbs but a load of fun...keeps the time passing by till the striped one comes back. lots of trout as well and today the small browns were on, they had some great colors too. The wind made it difficult since it would freeze my guides, line, and reel plus the white caps didn't help while wading around. i lost alot of fish cause of it, but ended the day with about 15-16 trout and 6 salmon. The pics are from over the past week. ...............two days ago me and two of my buddies got into a school of salmon which we took 29 fish from...that was one hell of a day of fishing..............So if the cabin fever is setting in, remember you can always bundle up and hit the fresh. hope you all have a wounderfull New Year.

Roy

They look like stocked fish, gauging the amount of fin and tail damage (caused from swimming in concrete fish ponds).
Great fishing nontheless.

I wouldn't mind getting one of those beauties through the ice!

(I did manage to jig up a few rainbows last weekend up in Westford, but nothing as big as these.)

Thanks guys................These are stocked fish...they are retired brood stock atlantics from both the palmer hatchery in MA and the white river hatchery in VT. I had an article on the fisherie in the November OTW. They are a blast thru the ice and are very easy to catch durring hard water. The bigger ones(fish over 10lbs) are even more fun. I got a couple more today which were much nicer looking. One of them had all it's fins at almost 9lbs it probably came from our own hatchery in Palmer...they usually release the bigger and nicer looking fish.....It was nice to finally get out of that wind from yesterday, today was warm.

Here's a few pics from today...wish they would make batteries that last longer in the cold.........One of the pics shows what happens to Teddy Bears when they don't hibernate.

Roy, if your camera takes disposible batteries get Lithium ones. They are far more resistant to cold. Use them in my GPS for winter months. Nice fish and pics.
