I wonder if he realizes that a world record Striper could be worth a couple of million $. With endorsements for everything from the hook and swivel to line, rod, reel, dry top, waders, etc, etc. Then there is the tradeshow circuit with the fish mounted plus the writers royalties about the fish, the trip, the fight, articles, books.
I swear I am a greedy Bast**d and the first thing I would do after getting the weight certified would be to get a sports agent.

If it was in MD in the Vicinity of the Susquehanna Flats, it's C&R only right now until 4/30 because the bass are up there spawning.

After i got it weighed and certified it would be sleeping in my bed with me and sitting at the table with me and my girlfriend while we ate. Then I'd be wearing any hat, and using a rod someone paid me to. the thought of making a living through fishing and not working my ass off would be to tempting.

If he even suspected that fish might be a world record and let it go, he's a better man than I.
I release virtually every fish I catch, but if I caught that one it would not be swimming away under any circumstances. That is a life changing fish if it is the record, and it sure looks like it might have been. I'm not sure it is a 100 lb fish, but it sure looks 80 lbs plus.
Wow.

I don't care if it's 70 or 100lbs, that's a beautiful fish. Congrats to the angler for catching it and then releasing it. It's nice to know that there are fish like that out there within reach of shore.

It looks legit to me..
I am not an expert but I do know a bit about photo shopping, etc. I say the photo is likely legit. 100lbs? ...I don't think so but its a huge fish thats for sure. The World record LMB was tied by a guy in Japan I think. I agree, the world record LMB will bring far more cash than will a Striper.

There are many X more LMB fisherman than striper fisherman. That's why there are so many more bass shows that surf fishing shows. As was said, if you have the world record striper and play your cards right, you'll do ok, but I doubt you'll become a millionaire
off it.
One thing to remember if you catch it, don't let anyone take a picture of it as once the picture gets out, I thought I read that you might loss control over it and any equipment manuf. might be able to use the picture with their product (doesn't sound right but I'd need a legal opinion on that).
The first picture I saw of that fish I thought was photo shopped but the 2nd looked real.
I wonder how much AH or BF would pay me if I caught it on their plugs

beautiful healthy looking fish. I do have my doubt about the picture do to certain shadows present and others apparently not but I'm willing to give the guy the benfit of the doubt (since I'm no picture expert) and say Congratulations.

anytime.... i would welcome the conversation.... it kind of bothers me personally that people take freshwater fishing so dam serious, trout gets stocked, opening day makes me wanna throwup, large and small mouth fishing has oh boy o'berto written all over nowadays, i guess it's a good thing that not much money or sponsorship comes out of surfcasting in general....

Look at bass pro shops for example A huge multi million dollar business owned privately... a business built on LMB fishing and hunting. Largemouth are found in just about if not all states in america.. striped bass are only on the east coast, california and southern oregon. Ok.. some small areas have land locked hybrid stripers.. but my point is that in this country there may be 15 million people who fish for LMB every year. The striped bass fishery is a fraction of that. Sure there are large tackle manufactures who market to LMB and stripers who are huge and could afford to sponsor someone or give prize money to the next world record holder, but the fact is this- they know that the real cash cow is LMB and that is where they focus their advertising money and sponsorships.. and as PaulS said... look at how many LMB fishing shows there are compared to striped bass fishing shows... there is no comparison.

nebe is 100% correct. If the world record SB was caught people in about 10 states would care. Drive around this country and you'll see bass boats everywhere. We used to chuckle that in Florida you'll see a 2 bedroom shack, broken down car, and a beautiful Ranger parked in the driveway.
