tks for first hand account....tell me why the engineers did not include a "air sampler" that sniffs out flamable/explosive gases?? and disconnects the backup generator??.......and...at the ocean floor some type of shutoff valve that provides an automatic shutdown of oil flow???-if the surface rig is compromised??(been to the moon.......can't figure out these two items??).............

trapper: Here's the most technical account I've been able to find. The media reports just keep doing meaningless sound bites :-P

The auto shutoff valve failed and the bubble came up so fast, I'll bet the generators couldn't be shut off...

not choosing sides here but believe it or not it harder to work on the bottom of the ocean than in space

A bit more...I'm more interested in what technically happened rather than the politics and blame game that eventually will follow :-P
