What do you guys that wetsuit use for plug bags ?

I find I'm usually only using eels, or 3 or 4 plugs (a couple darters, maybe a swimmer and a needle) when I'm in the wetsuit so I don't need anything too big. I was looking at the aquaskinz small/tall bag. I kind of liked that it could go on the belt rather than on a shoulder strap so its not moving around a lot.

Does anyone use that bag and do any swimming ?

I used the small/tall as my main bag until I started making my own bags and I liked it (although I didn't swim much with it, just a lot of deep wading). I think it would be fine, and the front pocket would be useful when wet suiting. The material will probably give out eventually (at least it did on my medium aquaskin bag) from the strain of the water weight each time it gets dunked. You'll max out at about 6-8 plugs (1/2 needles). You might check out their 2 tube Hunter Pro bag as well, those 3" tubes hold a lot of stuff (including water bottles).

The Aquaskinz elite 2 barrel like Numby mentioned is good. So are the side arms. I made some pretty good homemade side arms of tubing and duct tape that also did the job for me.

i like the single row VS bag...its perfect, even when im swimming short distances. i just make sure i thread it threw my wading belt.

Using the AS Small/Tall this season for wetsuiting and really like it. Big enough to hold a decent selection of plugs and fits nicely on a belt with knife, pliers and eel bag.

I've been using a Aquaskinz pro elite sidearm and generally its all I need for wetsuiting, I carry 2 needles a metal lip and darter in it. But I might pick up a elite 2 barrel for the times when I plan to fish into daylight just to have a little more variety.

the as tall bag is great, but will only last one season, in my findings,

last year i used a vs single row, great bag, good price, holds enough stuff to fish the night into daybreak.

never rinsed, never washed down, still looks break new.

I just made one with a small hunter's pouch and a couple empty poland spring(lemon) bottles. I simply left the caps on the bottles and cut the bottoms off.Could probably fit three bottles if I wanted to. I'll try to get a pic up. Cost was $15 and I can keep my camera and several spare eel rigs in it too.

Can you post pics or explain of how you transport eels? Do you guys put wholes in those jars? How do you fasten the lids so you don't lose them? Do you put them on a strap or rope or clip it to your belt. I denitely need to improve my eel trasnportation to a wetsuit friendly method. I don't like the individual baggies and soft coolers don't drain well. Don't like the eel bag either.

The photo of the mayonaise jar was a bit of a tease.

Thats funny I was gonna ask if bass liked their eels with Mayo. Maybe thats what I'm doing wrong

My dad uses something similar. He has a plastic juice bottle with a small neck like a very fine or oceanspray bottle and drills a hole in the removable screw on top and in the bottom of the bottle. Put a thin rope thru bottom of the bottle, pass it out thru the neck and thru the hole in the lid then tie the end of the rope so it can go over your shoulder. It works ok. You can't lose the lid as its on the rope and the small neck usually lets you pour them out one at a time. To get them in take a gallon milk jug, cut the bottom off and use it as a funnel...

1. Mayo jar with tethered lid.

2. Belt loop attached to side of jar.

3. Drill holes in bottom so slime and melted ice can get out.

4. I can put about 15 decent eels in the mayo jar at a time without any catastrophies.

I don't do heavy wetsuiting, but when predominately using eels and only want to carry a few plugs when , I use the BW 4 tube bag (modified)

Paintball harness is a good accessory. I can throw 4 or so rigged eels in each of the two tubes. Add grommets to the bottom and it drains fine. $15 max. Could hold plugs too.

Jim,

Its just a piece of diver's weight belt (about 8") folded in half to form a loop. Drill holes in it, then drill holes in mayo jar. Attach with nuts and bolts. A good friend actually made it for me several years ago.
