A 9 year old's perspective.
A quick conversation Saturday at 3AM on the way to the canal:
Son: "Dad it's 3AM there's no-one on the highway you can go as fast as you want"
Me: "Not true bud, there's only two kinds of people out at this time of the morning. Fishing people and crazy people."
Son : "What's the difference ? "
Dad: ........
I had no answer, we got skunked and got up early. He's one of us already!

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

The difference is that the crazy people don't fish!
It's funny though, because when I regale my friends and family with my own tales of fishing at 2 am. because of the tide, or in 20 mph winds and rain, they say I'm crazy!
Fortunately, I've been able to "convert" a couple of relatives (old and young) to my way of thinking, so I have a few that know what I'm talking about and understand the reason I love to fish.

20 years ago there was a LEO (law enforement officer) in Northern RI that would stop me at 2 in the morning, truck loaded with rods on the roof, 120 QT cooler in the basket on the front, etc etc. Siren. lights, the whole thing. Walk over to the truck and ask me where I was going.
I finally asked him why he would ask me such a question. He said that he too was a surf fisherman and wanted to know where the bite was because if I was crazy enough to be out at 2:00 AM, I sure knew something.
