Growth on Bass

Anyone ever seen anything like this? The fish seemed healthy and took a huge live mack. Might be an old hook wound that has gotten infected, but still very strange.

That's a tumor of some type, maybe a cyst but not likely. Definitely doesn't look like a wound (hook) healing.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Roy,

It doesn't look lik Myco but a quick email to DMF will probably get you an answer. Email Dr. Mik Armstrong (michael.armstrong@state.ma.us) who will pass it along to Gary Nelson or any of the other s-b biologists we have in MA DMF.

Infected wound or tumor.

I got one the other night that only had half of a jaw on one side. It looked like he had been caught years ago, got infected and cured with the whole left side of the jaw gone. The bass was perfectly healthy and FAT too.

He looked like the guy from the Cleveland Show with the hole in the side of his mouth.

FYI...Not sure about yours but the missing or half jaw thing is a know genetic birth defect....lots of fish caught that way.

Looks like my big toe.

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole

Picked up a fish a couple weeks ago with a similar growth. Not nearly as big though but still gross.
