arse holes
I called my marina today and spoke with a nice young lady. I had planned to go out Saturday evening and when I was on the boat earlier in the day, I did not fully secure my canvas CC cover. I only fastened 2 or 3 buttons. I asked her if she could have some one jump aboard and button the rest of the buttons because of the storm. She said no problem, consider it done.
I get home, there is a voicemail - she went to do it and the manager said she cant. They said I should come down and take the cover off and they are too busy hauling boats to help me. The girl was a little miffed, saying it would be no big deal for her, but they wont let her. We're talking 3 minutes of work for a customer that has been with them for 4 years. WTF????? I will call tomorrow and chew them out and then will blast them every chance I get on the web. Sorry I dont have yacht, but they have a bunch of open slips and next year there will be one more!

Many years ago, my marina (Marina Bay, Quincy) called me to tell me my boat was sinking. I asked them to put a pump in I was on my way. Oh sorry, can't. Liabilities, etc...
Turns out a bunch of boats were broken into that weekend, mine had radio, pump, blower, elec left on, dual batts ran out, lots a rain, almost lost it.

I think they have a liability if they don't help you Jimmy. After you have informed them of a problem and they don't help you rectify it, it could be on them. Like if the covers rip off, blah blah blah.

I agree with the liability issue more than the work issue. Being nice people these days, gets you screwed if something doesn't go right.
I've my boat trashed, my batteries stolen, my drain plug pu'lled out.
I love my trailer,it's always in the yard. behind my gate

thanks Mike, my sister is going to do it for me, she will be in NK. Very kind of you to offer.
I dont get the liability issue, they pull boats and work on them all the time, they moved the boat to work on the dock. They moved me into new slips, etc. I worked at watch hill boat yard while at school, we used to always check peoples mooring, ensure the boats were tied up correctly, straighten people's lines. Im a paying customer. F them.
Dont do business with Brewer Wickford Cove.

Why the hell didn't you call me????
BTW, I am in a great marina in Warwick Cove. Trevor, the yard manager and Peter the owner are 2 of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Someone took my hose and the shutoff on it. Next time I get to my boat there is a new hose and shutoff on my boat. They didn't have to do that. Plus they are $300 a year less than my last marine with better services and access. Ramp right in the marine so you can pull your boat anytime you want (change the oil, etc.) Even have WiFi in the marina.

they are generally a-holes at your place. my dad kept his boat there winters for several years. There used to be one good guy there, but when he left it was all downhill... Always issues. Finally he was smart enough to move it somewhere else.

You're really pissed off that they put people with more money in the line ahead of you. Let it go and count your blessings that any number of people would be more than willing to help you out and snap the snaps - you'll live longer.

I've been at the same marina and same slip since 1980.... I've seen numerous issues through the years, not with me so much as others.... not once have I seen them let a boat sink.... First they make a call... if you do not respond.. they drop a pump and call Tow Boat US ( conviently berthed at the marina) they then will haul your boat and put it on stands in the yard.... I'm sure the insurance companies would rather pay for marina work/rescue than buy a new boat and motor...
I'm surprised that other people at the marina didnt just snap the flaps shut for you, I'm sure there must be otjhers checking out their boats... anytime we see lights left on or other issues, we as a group tend to take care of our own, shutting off lights and/or radio that have left on, or telling the owner that boat X has water on the deck...I've had guy's throw away chum and put away eels( every one seems to know where my keepers are) that I left in my boat ...
A little curtosey goes a long way... something sorely lacking in society today...

if you are in the service indusrty, you need to service. Its what you do for a living. We are talking 5 buttions and 4 minutes of effort that the girl clearly had. My use of a slip is ZERO overhead to them. I dont use electricity and other than a handful of showers/toilets flushing, I cause them no expense. I am easy $ for them.
Its great I have friends/family who can help me out, but they have day jobs, they have obligations. I've had a tiring run of businesses I work with that dont come through for me. I'm very laid back and never ask for anything. This place screwed me when I first went there. They launched my boat and put the trailer in the yard. When i asked when I should pick up the trailer, they said "no rush". truthfully I forgot about it, a month later I get a bill for $400 for trailer storage. I fought them and after a few rough discussions I compromised and paid half. All they needed to do was call me and tell me I would have been charged. I EXPECT that from a business. I have no agreement wth the to store my trailer. Its a lame place and I've had it. Zac and I talked about this years ago. I've just stayed beacause its convenient. Im gone next year.

The old Kenport Marine in East Matunick was owned by the biggest pair if %$%$%$%$%$%$%$s in the business, those two take the cake. From kicking a supposed vietmanese guy out of the bait shop becuase it was Memorial Day to locking the bathroom all summer and claiming it was broken, they also liked to shut the water off at night, plus there gas pump over charged by about 20% I called them on it and they booted me out. They (lost) sold the marina to the new guy a few years ago. He is a little better. Although he did try to charge extra about half way through the season. A douche move for sure. Glad I am where I am now. Been hellish for sure.

Go and pull your boat out today or tomorrow morning, but tell them YOU are pulling it, not them. If they complain, throw the "liability" BS right back in their face and proceed as SLOWLY and meticulously as possible (emphasis on SLOW) all the while saying "sorry" "I'm going as fast as I can" and "Let me check my plug /brakes / hitch ONE MORE TIME.
Then proceed to pull the boat up the ramp!

Like any other line of business, some are good and some are bad. The bad ones get away with it during good times when its hard to find a slip, but they pay a price in times like these. Move the boat and don't look back.

The clock-punchers at the yard won't give a chit, but you'd probably get an axe in the skull in a 'Ramp Rage' incident from another boat owner.
