small pogie net question

i have a small net 20 x 10 (what ever the legal size is) should i set the net or drag it , i have been setting it and do a couple of circles around the net with the boat . some times i get some , sometimes not .i was wondering if i would do beter if i dragged it behind the boat in a circle . i am just afraid of hanging it on structure or old moring ect.. plus i think the net would fold up when towed , any thoughts , thanks

I've dragged it but only to move it a bit or straighten it out.
I think they kinda bunch up while being pulled and won't work right.

The mesh closes up when you're towing it so not many would get caught

Also a question of whether you're "surface gillnetting" or " seining". Different set of regs.
PS Get a 150 ft. net.

Do you have it set up with weights on the bottom corners and floats on the top corners to make sure its stretched out when its set?

i have 2lb wieghts tied 4 ft off the corners , bottom edge of net is lead core line , floats on top and a 6ft trailer bouy to hook net without getting to close to the props . as far as a bigger net you need a comm. licens and and my boat is only 18" not a lot of room left aft with a trash barrel in it .

With that little net one and twosies are about all you'll get. Set it out. Back away a lillte and kill the motor. If a float hoes down go check it. You can circle it if you think there's a school that can be pushed in the net. If u don't get none pick it up and move it somewhere else.

How do I catch live Pogies to use as striper bait ? I see these guys jigging off bridges and catching these small fish , putting them in buckets . I assume they are using them live for striper . IF you can catch them how are they hooked for fishing ?
