Ever catch fish with gear in mouth?

Rockfish9 posted that he recently caught a fish with a long length of braid coming out of its mouth (he posted a pic under "Ugly Fish"). I've caught many trout with hooks and snells and I once caught a largemouth with a nice Rapala on the outside of it's jaw. Ever bring in a striper (or other fish) with some kind of gear?

I've gotten several. I got one back in the 90's with a worm float hanging out of its mouth. Fish was 43-44" and weighed maybe 22-23# at most. It had obviously been swimming around quite a while with the rig attached.

Another time at the canal I got a small fish that wasn't more than 30" with a 5 oz
RonZ and 20' of mono trailing behind it.

Also got a skinny fish off squibnocket that had a treble hook imbedded in its mouth which I almost put into my hand while reaching for the single hook. It looked like a yo-yo rig that broke off.

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole

Mahi-mahi! Hooked up on one reel wherein the fight lasted about 30 sec before line broke, 30 sec later the next trolling line went ZZZZZZZZZ. Successfully boated the mahi and got my lure back from the 1st attack.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Early in the spring a huge snapping turtle took out a picccerole right at feet and took my bill dance spook with it. 2 weeks later I lured that bastard in again with a largemouth floppin around in the water, netted him and dug the spook out of his foot where it had gotten snagged. he was pissed lol

And last night I lost a 38'' striper, (i know this becuase i caught another identicle one a few days earlier from the same spot) and right at my feet he swam right into the barnacle covered rocks on the slippery jetty i was on and snapped the braid. Saw that F'er swim away with in crystal clear calm water with my 23 dollar canal special yellow and white pencil. By far my favorite plug this season. So if any of u see that fish, i want my plug back!!!

I was fishing in the surf with some clam on a top bottom rig when a nice striper took off with it. Unfortunately I was fishing with an old penn reel and the drag got stuck due to some sand so line snaps and I am sitting there kicking myself in the a$$ when the guy down the beach hooks himself a fish, but when he is about to bring it in the fish throws the hook and all he has on the end of his line is my rig.

A few years ago I was all alone.... late October around Halloween in a favorite local spot. I caught a sick looking skinny striper about 36 inches...no fight left in the poor fish...just reeled it in. Attached was a bait rig and length of mono. I felt bad for that fish...it was obviously very hungry and took my plug as a last ditch effort of survival....I seriously thought after I let it go that it was the last striped bass leaving town.......that ended my season right then.

I caught a canal fish wth a small bucktail in its mouth. I switched to that bucktail and caught on it for a while but ended up breaking it off in a different fish that same night.

I have got 4 in the last month with leaders in them pretty funny. I'm waiting for someone to break off a giant next to me so I catch it.

About once every other year. Here's a funny story:
About 10 years ago I was fishing CC Beach in Truro, my neighbor pulls up in the lot and waks down to shoot the breeze. I was soaking worms and get a hit. New to braid, I break up when I set the hook ( drag locked and really yanked the rod back). I asked him how big does he think THAT fish was... The next week he hands me the rig I lost and had made. And says 36 inches, Fred. He had hooked the rig that I had tied through the swivel and brought that fish in at the very same spot a week later. What are the odds?

Well I was fishing one time and the plug snapped off like they sometimes do,
so I retied and a few cast later I hooked the same plug threw the snap swivel and caught a fish coming in what a riot.
and i caught a blue fish with a plug in its head both hooks buried in his head all rusted.

Last summer I caught a schoolie with a size 4/0 hook in its maw, about a foot of leader material trailing and a small weathered styrofoam float pinned thereon

A couple of decades ago caught a teen-size bass, around 14 pounds or so, on a live pogie, when I reeled the thing in to release it ... it had two other lines coming out of its mouth, so combined with mine it had three in total ... looked like a catfish with whiskers, not sure how it wound up, but I let the poor thing go.

I caught a good sized blue with a barnacle encrusted snagging hook crammed down its throat.

Everything is better on the rocks.

I've caught two bass that were towing rods and reels, one was a Zebco 202 outfit attached to a fish about 8 lbs.. another was a rod with a Johnson reel attached to it..I caught too many to count that had hooks in them, I've caught them with various sinkers and drail being dragged behind, several with bobbers as well as a few with plugs.. the prize was a 38lb bass that took a trolled goo goo... attached to the back of it's head was a vintage Heddon flap tail.. THE one that I copied for the replica for last years plugfest...

A good run is better than a bad stand!

NICE!!!

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

I was fishing a fresh water beaver pond about 10 years ago. There was a bobber out in the middle and each time i dragged my spinner past it the bobber would follow it for about 5 feet then go back to where it was. I finally got smart and cast and snagged the bobber and pulled in a nice 12" brook trout that was attached to it about 3 feet down.

I caught a blue fish with briad through him. looked like what was left of a small bait rig attached.

A couple years ago on block, I hooked a small bass in the wash. As I went to pick it up, it was stuck on somethign. I flipped on my light and there was a length of libe running out of its mouth and back into the water. I grabbed the line and pulled in a section of line and fishfinder rig, the bait hook buried in its mouth.

Last night Strider had a decent bass on and I hopped off my rock to land it for him. As I went to lip the fish, I noticed something in the corner of its mouth. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a weighted snag hook covered in barnacles and some sort of shrimp. Popped the snag hook and his eel hook out and let her go.

Caught a 4lb largemouth bass that had some mono coming out of it's butt. Upon closer inspection, there was a hook just underneath the skin inside his butt. That means it somehow managed to pass the entire hook through it's system before getting hung up at the very end. I did him a favor and got it out of there before letting him go.
