The Great Bunker Debate.

From the looks of it, there is a war going on in NJ over the status of menhaden. I was had just shut off the computer and went upstairs and laid down when I had a rush of ideas come into my head. Here are a few thoughts about it.

First of all, I'm a fisherman. I love fishing for stripers and bluefish as we all know rely on bunker as one of their main forages.

At the same time, I can feel for the bunker netters. I think it was Sir Walter Scott who said, "It's not fish you're buying, it's men's lives." Being out of a job has gotta suck for those guys.

But I think we need to look at the bigger picture. Not what we enjoy doing, or what those netters do for a living, but the enviroment. The enviroment provides for all our needs in one way or another and in return we have to provide for the enviroment's needs and even it's wants. I think one of the Agent's from "The Matrix" said it best. The agents had just captured Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) and are holding him captive. The Agent basically goes on about him trying to classify humans and he realizes that we aren't mammals. Mammals create an equilibrium but we don't. When we use up the resources, we spread outwards. Kind of funny how art imitates life. I think it's time we turn back to mammals.

Now here is the question. What can I do to help? Not on the side of the fishermen, not on the side of the netters, but on the side that needs our help the most, Mother Nature. It just so happens that the fishermen agree with the Enviroment. I am a registered voter in CT. There has to be more I can do then post words of encouragement to the Salty Dogs. Any ideas? I'm looking to get involved.
