The secret weapon for the ditch--skin jigs
Now is the time to use your skin jigs at theditch if you have them. They are not so secret anymore but the guys who fish the ditch a lot will tell you that an eelskin jig is a pretty good weapon right now.
here's a tip , this time of year , rig the skins short. later on you will rig them full length but right now , rig them short so the whole thing is about as long as a blueback.
Also , drift the skin jigs , don't back bounce them like you would do with rubber.
good luck!

Hmmmmm?
What is an eel skin jig, how does it work, how to rig and fish it?
As a beginner I have heard of this <shhhh> secret weapon, but I have yet to see one. Can someone let me (us) know how to use it, maybe post a picture. A little history etc.
Thanks
Nils

Nils, I think if you do a search on skins, you'll find additional info.

This time of the year fish the Skins with the Blue Side OUT and as noted above fish the skins short, about 5 to 8 inches. You are simulating Herring.
Later on fish the skins regular black side out and about as long as you want. She will take the rig in the head so you don't need to worry about a long tail hook.
