Sneaky - Shaky Reid
Harry Reid tries to sneak legislation for online poker gambling into tax bill to satisfy one of his biggest contributors, Harrahs of Vagas who had contributed over 80,000.00 to Reids recent campaign. Reid was going to add verbiage that would have given Harrahs exclusive on line poker rights which no other state could have on line poker.

The government shouldn't be prohibiting the online poker. However, it also shouldn't create legislation that essentially provides a monopoly role for a company in any industry.

This bill going to cost Ma., one of the more profitable lotteries in the country, alot of money. Your town will suffer because of this Dbags pandering to line his pocket.

The bill isn't going to cost anything because it isn't law yet. Hopefully a collection of people with sense will prevent this.
Personally, I think the state lottery is essentially a voluntary tax on the stupid. I can't understand why anyone would pay to be at an 18,000,000 to 1 disadvantage. I'm curious though, how do you see it costing the MA State Lottery "alot of money"? Do you really think that many people will stop playing the MA Lottery to play online poker? If that's the case, I'd be curious how much the MA Lottery's revenue increased when the online poker restrictions were put in place. |

I don't play either JD and hate getting behind someone who puts 10$ in the gas tank, gets a pack of smokes and put's the rest of their last $20 bucks on scratch tickets.
Alot of the people I see purchasing lottery tickets don't look too full of ambition. I see online poker as a lazy way to play the lottery. So yes, I see it hurting town revenues. |

We're definitely on the same page when it comes to your first point. I was in the self-checkout at Stop&Shop once and the person in front of me bought a pack of gum, got cash back from their EBT card (first thing that blew my mind) and then I passed them at the customer service desk buying cigarettes and scratch tickets.
On the second, I don't really see online poker as a replacement for the lottery. Definitely gambling, but it's nothing like putting $5 down at the corner store and hoping your number gets pulled. I've played a lot of poker online and in the casino and sit down with a "me vs them" mentality. My odds are only as good my play is.
There's a reason the same dozen or so people always place in-the-money at the World Series of Poker. |

I don't know about stupid, but certainly used by people who can least afford
it, holding out false hope for the big one.
The only winner is the govt. getting $ from those who don't pay taxes
and yet spending tax payer money to advertise "the impossible dream."
How much of those scammed $$ do you actually think goes back into the state coffer?
