It use to be like that...now you catch a 40" fish and if it is 20# your downright giddy!
But there is no problem with the striper population...no, everything is great we are well above any thresholds to take action. Oh, don't worry about the weight or health of the fish...and those red sore spots...don't worry about them either, all is well, all is well. Maybe we should increase the quota?
Fishery managers need to get their head out of their ass.

Great fishies, I have some pictures of my grandfather from down in Hatteras NC with a handfull of big slobs and a pickup truck load of bluefish in the bed.
Not just out of their asses, they need to get out on the water and see what is really going on not just sit behind a desk and look at paperwork!!!!!!!

it use to be the rule . back then we actually had baitfish around.
kind of hard to believe it wasn't that long ago.
|
put them back alive. i do have grandkids.

I'm not sure on the weights of the fish; I do know that they were taken in the mid 1950's from the surf at Point Allerton in Hull MA. That's my dad holding the fish and me and my sister posing with the old man. My dad was as hardcore as it gets...started fishing from the surf in the early 50's....and kept on fishing hard right through his last season in 2010. He passed away @ 88 on 1/13...luckily he sent over 60 yrs. worth of bass on ahead of him to keep him busy......wherever he is. 
Notice my sister's finger under my nose....nothing like the smell of dead fish! |

Thanks Ron. It won't be quite the same on the "Sokinwet" next season without the old man holding up his end of the boat. I can tell you for sure that the time you're spending fishing with your boys today will be greatly appreciated by them and will bring a smile to their faces in some reflective moment down the road.

Agreed 3-4 years ago had a 49 1/4 inch bass that barely went 32lbs...

Ditto.. I caught one similar on a Nauset a few years ago.. in October
49 and change inches.. barely 35#...... |
