Burndt my thumb pretty bad

its a bad one carrying in the cast iron skillet off the burner and the ove-glove failed miserably food never made it to the table and the burn on my left thumb is pretty bad i think when the blister pops i might see bone worst of all i think i scared my neighbors and even wors i thknow i scared jane its a bad burn,,those leftover pecocets help alot!

Are we talking "grilled chicken wing, left too long on the grill" burnt, or "fried sausage that wasn't scored beforehand" burnt?
Or maybe it's a "splashed back of hand with hot grease" burnt?




As a teenager, I spilled boiling water across the back of my hand, and watched in awe and disbelief as the skin just washed away from the burn.
Then the trobbing pain set in....for the next 3 days!!!!!

No bone as of now but jeeezus the blister size is insane.Seeing bone might have been an overstatement at the time but wow is this painful.About the size of a quarter right on the ball of my left thumb.If I pop this blister I wouldn't be surprised if I saw something that might scare me...the ove-glove melted to my thumb.The pan was so hot it melted a hole in my linoleum kitchen floor to the subfloor.

No drugs tonight until I'm horizontal.The throbbing is insane.

I think I might pop the blister just to see how far/bad it is.Morbid curiosty is getting the best of me.

Btw trying to function without a usable thumb sucks.

they sell large spears (leaves) of ALOE VERA at the grocery store these days....

yeah, you practically have to buy a set of welders gloves
to handle black iron that's hot

leave the blister, it protects the wound underneath...

a tiny pin hole in the very edge near the good skin then squeeze out the juice without tearing the skin. As Ed said , the blister skin is some protection. If you don't drain the big blister , it could easily tear right down the middle.
Anyway , a tiny pin , put the tip in a flam till it turns red , wait for it to cool then just pierce the very edge of the blister to drain it. On bad burns the fluid often fills the blister agin so you need to re drain it. When you drain it and it doesn't fill up again , that's a good size. then you kind of let the skin adhere to the flesh under it and then you apply some kind of anti bacterial ointment to keep it from getting too dry and cracking.

Burns are tough. Like Nebe , having worked with metals and ceramics so long , burns are inevitable , the hope is to keep them as minor as possible.

Ive had some serious burns, the worst ones come from other people but yourself, dumb line cooks carrying sheet trays into your neck.

Its going to happen someday if you work with hot items.

the silverdine stuff they sell at the stores works wonders, expensive but great results.

leave the blister on and don't pop it, it will do more repair work than any meds can. after 3 or 4 days cut the blister off and use that silver sulfidine(great stuff). keep it covered and clean.

Agree, and watch it closely. Even if you take care of it there's always the chance of celulitis or other infection on a burn that bad.

The blister popped itself while washing the vehicles.It actually feels better now to be honest,no more throbbing.

Can hoegarden or silver sulfidine be bought at Rite-Aid/CVS?

u need a rx for silvadene(silver sulfidine)...use triple antibiotic ointment , keep it covered with non stick gauze...watch for color changes, it can mean an infection

All the dead skin is off and because its on the inside part of the knuckle if I look closely I can see my thumb bone under the redmeat.Its freaky to say the least.

Starting to hurt like a mutha#^&#^&#^&#^&er again as its now been exposed to open air.

I've kept it covered and lubed with Neosporin.Its actually healing quite well...just throbs.

Pics?I live in the stone-age.I'd have to take the photos and bring the film to the store and have the film developed.Still working with a 35mm camera.

In the last two days the healing has been amazing.There's this beautifil shiny smooth red skin with a pit in the middle.

you can speed it up by taking time release vitamin C
which helps heal from the inside out

Vitamin A found in anything ORANGE or yellow fleshed
vegetables as skin is practically made out of vitamin A

Carrot juice can be purchased at the grocery stores now
and the beta carotein gets converted to vitamin A
it works better though when you have meat sources too
for example a serving of LIVER (i know not everyone's favorite)
but it tastes rather like a breast of wild duck
has around 150,000 units of vitamin A in it ,,, so its worth it...

and vitamin E oil (30,000 units) later will make the redness vanish
and prevent scar tissue

keep up the good work ,,,,strawberries have lots of vitamin C
in fact even more than oranges
