Update on Bill!!!
HI ALL, I just wanted to drop in and let everybody know whats going on as we are both just very touched and appreciate all the prayers, calls, and well wishes from everybody.
Late Thursday evening Bill was starting to go the other way on recovery from his colon surgery, he had been having trouble all day but we just thought he was having a rough day. As the night went on he got worse, his abdomen was so extended he was having trouble eating, drinking, you name it. He got up and started throwing up violently for a while, I woke up and came out and was horrified to see him sitting in a chair trying to breath, sweating bad and one of his small incisions was leaking onto his shirt like the size of a dinner plate.
We called an ambulance and he was taken to Brockton hospital, as he arrived in the ER he was suffering a major heart attack as well as complications from the surgery, they had to shock him 4 times while he was awake. They took him up to the Cath lab and they found a blockage beside his stent from a heart attack he had back in 2003. Most likely the clot formed because of having to come off aspirin for the surgery. It happens unfortunately. They did not find any other blockages so we will have to wait and see how much damage his heart has but at least that end is fixed.
After the cath lab they took him to Cardiac ICU, he was still very distended in his abdomen, and throwing up a lot, They ended up putting in an NG tube to drain his stomach. Turns out that he has an Illiac, which means his colon is still paralized from all the surgery and is not working. so all the stuff he had been trying to eat and drink was not going down. so it all came out the other way.
The drain is what he needs right now, they also thought he had a blockage or a perferration to his bowel, they did a CT scan today and everything is good to go, he had just gotten so swollen in the belly that all that pressure was pushing down on his bowel and squeezing it off. So all he needs now is healing time, they will keep the tube in until all the colon is working and he is staring to pass stuff all the way thru.
Its been a very long couple of days but I know we have a bunch of great friends on here and wanted to let everybody know whats going on. Thanks again for everything all and I will let you know how he progresses.
