Still tying tails......not much time lately

And almost half the batch I done is blems cuz I can't break the epoxy off around the screw eyes without ripping the damn paint off

Them tuna have good eysite but not that good . . . I'm sure they're near perfect anyway . . . I looked at the "blem's" at the MSBA Show and couldn't find it

break out the dremel tool to learn the epoxy good

found that was the easiest way to do epoxy cleaning on streamers etc.

yea the problem I been having is with the screw-eyes I put into the ends to spin them dry, no matter how much you try to be careful it always ends up that epoxy goes into the joint between the eyes and the plug, and it's soooooo strong that you need to twist the eyes out with pliers but the weak link is the paint to the plug at the joint......paint isn't meant to be in a shear state like that

I may be doing these in a very limited run because of the problems and the cost of building them.....

Thought of that Slip, but then the problem is the threads are larger than the shafts...and it still crackes them because the epoxy won't move that far....and they have to go in as far as the shafts or else they're easier to pull....and that means they get wrecked when they fall.... It's a catch 22 situation.

only to spin them on the drying wheel.....so come up with a betta way to hook 36 plugs together at once without having them fall and go boom

try using a razor or xacto before you remove them around the screw eye to score the paint, it SHOULD break free that way

yea I tried that too with an Xacto knife and since it's inside the cupped face you can't get at the damn thing without slipping....wrecked plug. Lemme tell you I been working on this every which way from Sunday.....

No CS, I drill the bodies etc, then put #10 screw hooks into the ends of the plug, paint them, then put them on the drying wheels hooked end to end to epoxy them. When you epoxy them there's always a area around the screw where it goes into the plug where the epoxy gathers while it's spinning, and when it dries it basically epoxies the screw hook in, then when you try to back it out if the bond of epoxy to the hook doesn't shear off the body of the plug then the screw threads that are larger than the body of the hook eye grab the epoxy and that rips it out. Basically what happens is that by twisting the whole thing it puts the epoxy in shear and the weak link is the epoxy to paint so it rips a whole section off the front of the plug right down to primer and I get a wrecked plug.

can you wire them up before the epoxy? If not, try using a section of wire instead of screw eyes. Insert the nose grommet. Bend the front of the wire like you would for the line tie, this will secure it in the plug. Run through the plug and bend the other end into a hook and you are good to go.
