hogy soft bait
Has anyone used these or have experience. Thinking of vetting some of these to put in the tackle box. Are they like sluggos or al gags?

Funny, I actually saw some Gags soft baits at Benny's the other day.

Exact same as sluggos pretty much. They make some nice jigheads though for trolling and casting which are worth looking into.
Tough to beat an unweighted soft plastic though IMO

speaking of Benny's, the whole fishing aisle was 40% off last weekend. I cleaned up on odds and ends.

I bought all the 50lb Power Pro a few weeks at 2 different locations for $15 per 300 yard spool. I also got a minnow trap for my son for a couple bucks.
I saw the Gags rubber baits and jig heads. The hooks looked a bit cheap but I didn't really look too closely.

I agree, for the most part. I liked a little weight( four finishing nails in the head) when fishing a rigged slug-go to keep it down in moderate current. Size-wise, no other artificial catches like a rigged slug-go. Big shads and Pencils take big fish in the canal, but in RI i have faith that a slug will entice that one lone big fish like an eel would...

agree, I caught more fish this year from spring up until last weekend on white sluggos, even more than eels this year.
Been in schools of bass with 10 boats on them and I was the only guy hooking up over and over.
I have Hogys and have not used them yet, I assume the results would eb similar

When you're fishing in a boat in the middle of a blitz, have you tried working a white 9" slug-go unweighted like a pencil on the surface? Killer....

thats exactly how I have been fishing them. not only in blitzes but along the rocks, rips, points. fish are keyed into them for some reason this year. I've used them before but never had this much success

I've recently rigged and weighted Hogys with double hooks and nail weights ala sluggo-fashion and find they tend to rise to the surface more quickly. Like other soft baits, they do work, but I prefer sluggos and Got Strypers. However, I have some on jig heads which haven't been tossed yet.

those Al Gags soft baits are pretty nice, the hook looks to be a mustad laser point, not a vmc/owner but still pretty fishy lookin'
also, lots of crip hrngs 1-3 oz dirt cheap.
