Question JohnR/Clam/Boatheads

I know both of you did a lot of boat re-searching...and you almost have me convinced that you know what your talking about.

I'm looking at this right now;

18 foot sport (Wellcraft Hull)
140 hp Suzuki

Asking $6,000

Looks clean and he promises it runs SUPER...whatever that means

Whaddayathink?.....and this goes for all you boat yahoos...input is appreciated.

...it finally happened, there are no more secret spots

I think we need to discuss this at Hooters

and look at the one in the classifieds - the 4.3V6 is a 350 with two lopped off cylinders and the Mercuiser Alpha One is pretty good outdrive and PLENTIFUL for parts... http://www.striped-bass.com/vbulleti...&threadid=8589

What year is the suzuki? 2 or 4 stroke? Do you have a suzuki dealer nearby?

Clammah - I had that rig in my boat and it was pretty solid....

Bloo - if you do look for that Suzi, I'de recommend getting it checked out before purchase. I've heard a lot of good things about Scott from Viking Marine in Portsmouth and having met him he comes across as a knowlegeable & class guy. you'd definitely want him to look it over before you drop some coin...

Boathead apprentice here,
What year is the motor, is it 2 or 4 stroke?
is a trailer included?
if you like it take it for a looong test ride, shut it down, troll with it, open it up, take hard turns.
Take a look at the sellers house and car too, if they are in good shape its usually an indication the person cares for their stuff.
check for stress cracks on transome (see Vans post).
Good luck, there are lots of boats out there for 6k, I suggest looking at boats 21ft or bigger, the extra space is always used and its a better ride.

If that's a newer Suzuki 4-stroke, and the boat is in good condition it sounds like a great bargain. If it is a 4-stroke I agree with John have Scott @ Viking check it out for you. Best of luck....

Clammer, the Suzuki's will start (at least my 150 2-stroke did) fine in the cold, you just can't shift into gear. With my winter fishing, that became a little frustrating, so the Suzuki had to go.
