Theres a time and a place for everything...
So when would be your ideal times to chunk, and when would be your times to fish plugs exclusively? Does it depend on conditions only, the size of the fish running, or anything else?

I never chunk. This morning guys beside me were doing pretty good with herring chunks. I threw topwater, swimmers, jigs, tin, and needles to achieve a total skunk. maybe I should start. see you on the beach...longshot

I think chunkers have an advantage the daytime when fish tend to be deep, and in the fall when blues are feeding on top and bass are picking up the pieces below - a lot of good fish have gone to chunkers while everyone else is happy catching small blues. But chunking is a viable full time approach also.
I've caught heck for this before, but I still think that the true hybrid angler is a rarity. I don't know too many guys who do chunk and plug 50/50.
I've also been rethinking the "rules" of fishing with each new person I meet. True, there are basic rules that are in concert with fish behavior: nocturnal feeding, migration tactics, seasons, etc - but there is a lot of room for creativity with respect to fishing. The basic rules are more of a framework.

 ......
Okay, not quite 50/50 but I'm getting close....
Mighty.....it's tough to say, depends on when/where.....but I would say, about this time of year, chunks are good.....the air and water temps are heating up, and the big momma's are gettting sluggish.....so, again depending on when or where, a chunk near the bottom might just be the enticement they are looking for. (Either that, or use deep swimming plugs/jigs/rubber , and look for deep water.....ya know, it's cool down there, I mean, wouldn't that be where you'd wanna be on a hot summer day?)
That holds true more in the early evening or right after sun up, as at night, they could be cruising around chasing bait.....but even at night, if it's been hot, they may lay low........
Good luck......

I've made only a few trips this year, but with limited space in the vehicles I was traveling it, it kinda had to be a 50/50 thing. I'm basically batting about .400 either way (with some help). It probably has more to do with how far I'm willing to drive but it seems like the few spots I frequent have all gone to the darkside. I've caught schoolies plugging and it certainly was pretty cool, but I'd love a shot at some large. Steve, I could tell you where I'd like to be on a hot summer day, but, ahhhh... nevermind
...IF I can find a spot that was like the one you showed me in April (well south of NE), then I might do some damage
