Abu 7000CL problem...Mikecc???
Mikecc.......this may be up your alley........
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I needs a little help. I purchased an Abu 7000 CL from someone other than Pure Fishing, although I think they may be a division of.
When I received the reel, I set it up just like my 7000c3's and gave her a cast. Upon attempting to engage from free-spool, it would not work. I had to physically move the spool to the right to get it to engage. Thinking I had the tension TOO loose, I tightened up a little and tried again. This time it would not engage at first but then engaged after a few turns. Knowing this was a problem, I took it to a dealer.
We compared it to another 7000CL in the case and they felt "Different" He (pretty smart individual) put his thumb on the spool and wiggled the handle back and forth, not hard mind you, and the handle turned right around. This was with the drag all the way tight and the spool not moving. We tightened EVERYTHING and tried it again with the same results. I sent it back last week.
I just got a call from the "COmpany" and the guy says there is NOTHING wrong with it and that is how it is "Supposed" to work. Says he owns many. I said so do I and NONE are like this. I walked him through the proceedure and he still insists it is correct and that it is supposed to do this.
Am I missing something?? Can anyone else duplicate this on their 7000CL???
I NEED HELP!!!!!!

At most the handle should go 1/2 turn before engageing the spool.Sounds like the reel was not assembled properly or is dirty inside .

I had the same problem with a 7000CT I traded a Penn 6500 for with Brad. Eventually after spinning the handle a few times, it would engage, but never on the first turn. I never did get it sorted out. I wound up taking the plates off, cutting off the top bar, and swapping the frame back and forth with my red 7000---which never had that problem. Neither have the other 4 big Abus now in my collection.
Knowing Brad and how he maintained reels (seldom to not-at-all) could have been pilot error

I have the same problem with my 6500 CS Rocket. I have tried it all including lighter weight lubes, thick grease and even the best, Boeshields T9 that I use on my racing bikes. The tend to work for the first half of the night and then by the morning the problem starts kicking in again. Did you buy it from a guy from Sweden off E-bay? Just curious, maybe he works in the defect dept and gets to keep the broken ones?

abus are fascinating aren't they :-)
Check on the side plate and see if it says "made in sweden" or
"assembled in sweden". The assembled ones are a bit different. Only slightly different, but different none the less.
I have a 7000 cl and a 7000 c3. The cl is much tighter than the c3.
Something is up, sorry I can't help you more.
