Just wanted to thank everyone whos called nd emailed me with different rods, and some great prices, however i happen to be a towering 5'8 1/8", i have also had 7 anchors put in my left shoulder, so one of the main things and shame on me for not posting it is the butt to reel set at longest can be around 23.5" preffer little shorter but this will work. Also i would love a new concept set up vs the old guides but not required just a bonus.

I appologize for not posting this in the op.

thanks for your interest. I am only 5'8" also. Unfortunately,my left shoulder has arthritis now and my 1321M aggravates it.

Butt to reel stem is 25" and I threw it for a few years.

Great rod, but I am looking at buying a legend (still going to try to use my 1321L as I had it refurbished and it is a rocket)

A quote below from the Century thread earlier...you sure you need the 1328? It took me a little bit to get used to , you know you were next to me most of the time...I still think you should try mine before commiting to the 1328, it might be too much for your back/neck..MikeP posted in the Century thread a while ago, heres his opinion of the 1327

"I can tell you that the 11' HJ 1327 tosses and lifts a 3 oz head and Sluggo as easily as any rod that I've ever fished. It's not "just" a plugging rod. IMO it's a very versatile Canal tool. I think it can easily handle another ounce or two. But on these off tides, 3 oz is all I need to stay down."

I'm pretty sure the rating on that blank is 2-5, I've thrown 4 before no problem when I have jigged with it using my emblem pro 5000, the distance to the reel seat from the but is 26, 28 to the center, from the butt to the 1st eye, good question, I would have to look, rod is down the cape, I am in merrimack nh, rod is not beat, I take care of my stuff,

I read that post, the issue is not tossing the weight because i use a 2-5 mojo now and i make a 4oz disappear, that is not the issue. I want more backbone on the jig and hookset, to pull the fish out of that deep water. Im really thinking the 1328 is probably going to be the right rod, and the 1261MH is a close second. I am weighing the advantages/disadvantages of each vs cost at this point.

You could probably trim a longer butt down an inch or two without affecting action too much I would think...

I have consided taking a 132 1M and taking some off the top, i have heard of people doing that makes a really nice stick as well, advantage is 1 piece so thinner lighter, but i feel it devalues the blank. I already had one person wrap a rod and cut 6 off the butt with out my permission, then i needed to take the rod to CMS for a save, they did a nice job fixing it but the blank looks like heck.

I have a XRA 1261MH 3-8 standard style fuji alconites cork grips graphite real seat was custom a couple of years ago from CMS its the original brown blank and has only seen 20 or so days of fishing, and was to stiff for a friend of mines shoulder. So I bought it but i think I'm good to go with the rods I got. pm ME if your interested.

				Slight thread drift...sorry

		Skip,
Your posts have me thinking that we really should all get together and "test" a few rods out on a nice warm weekend then all get lunch or something. Grab a bunch of bank sinkers and give it a try. Bottom line is none of the sticks mentioned (including the 1209s I pm'd you about) are bad. Everyone has a preference, a casting style and particular way of fishing. In reality unless you are really jigging moon tides mid turn, out in the middle, you wont ever need to throw 5+ all that often or ever. I myself would love to try some different setups guys have just for the sake of knowing. A couple things have come up but keep mind how you load a rod is based on mechanics that start with footing. Casting a rod off the beach is way different that a slimy canal perch. Also I don't care whether you didn't have back and neck issues, throwing and bouncing heavy jigs for tide gets to you after a while for anybody. From talking to you about loading a 1205, I think you probably need/liked the action on a mojo.
If anyone (you) wants to lets start a new thread on a rod testing day I am in!
Fishing for giants (which is what you are referring too with the the stopping power) is always always done more effectively with gear not used by many of us most days. Basically if your looking for an everyday jig rod it may not be the one you can land that tuna from the east end with next fall. Make your decision on what you actually need and if you want to overlay with a "special" rod go for it. Part of the learning curve about jigging big water is how to get a fish out of it. Its not all rod, its a fair amount of technique, because once a freight train gets going its tough to stop.

By the way, you must have taken some magic lessons "making 4 once disappear" just made me laugh.

I know the 11 ft rods are controversial, but the 10 ft Lami Super Surf is an awesome rod for the canal. Super light and strong(stronger than you'd think). I've unintentionally beat the chit out of mine and it has held up well. I did blow up one but it was my fault( I hooked my jig bag on the backcast, stupid mistake). It is rated 2-6 but I have thrown everything from unweighted redfins to big shads with it. perfect for 3-4 oz slug-gos and ronz's. Just something to consider and MikeCC has deals on them sometimes...
